Anyway, Jordan and now George RR Martin have made me adopt a policy of never starting any series until its actually done. I haven't read the last three Goodkind books yet, but I will get around to it soon. |
I agree about Jordan. LOVED the series... the concept, but it was too darn slow and TOO descriptive.
Jordan version: He slowly placed one foot in front of the other... each foot was covered in the leather from the 1000 dragons, embroidered with a billion yards of silk. The rugs beneath him quivered in fear of his trodding upon them. The polyester rayon curtains with twin dragons hand painted by 5 year olds were parted when he slowly placed his hand in front of him, as if by some weird magic created by some unknowing..... blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.
Goodkind version: He strolled into the occupied room and sat down without saying a word.
And the wierd thing - Jordan's world - for all it's description - was not nearly as 'real' a Goodkinds was.
Honestly - I once sat down and thought about the complexity of creating a series like the SOT series and it completely blew my mind. Think about it - in the first book, he did it down to the plants and up to the clouds. The hair of females... all these little intriquite detail that just make the story THE story.
I re-read it becuse it is my favorite series, and I absolutely LOVE them. There are so many 'key issues' in those books that I with the rest of the planet would just 'get'. I'd like to force feed Faith of the Fallen to a few people...
There are people that I wish were 'there' - but he does setup the series for those characters to exist outside of his 'circle'. I absolutely LOVE the Mord-Sith though. The concept - thought it's brutal - was an interesting addition to the story. Most stories focus around 'male' power - even the Quads were male. But that one gave some serious kick a$$ power to the chicks. I told DH I'm going to go as one for Halloween one year. He said he'd buy the outfit. *ROFLMAO*
