Don't you hate it when the publisher/cover designer haven't read the book?...

Heh.. it may be one that only a fan of the book will notice... and even then, only a major fan of it. (I've read this series a number of times.. it was a major part of my teenaged years.)

Wrong color ring.
By the way, the publisher wouldn't have to read the series. All they would need to do is look at the names of the books in the second series, and they might notice something was wrong. I assume its the same publisher for both series?

white gold you freaking idiots.
Dang - the whole series is built around that ring.
Yes - I'll officially step up as a major geek - I've read them - and aside from the fact that most of the book I want to tell him to PLEASE check and make sure he has a pair... it's one of my favorite series.

Hehe.. glad I'm not the only one who went D'OH, then. LOL
Yea.. this series was very important to me as a teen... for a lot of reasons too personal for a public forum. :)
It just left me thinking... are there no checks and balances on this sort of thing?
This same cover image is being used for the reprints of all three books in the first trilogy.. and if you set the three of them in order on the shelf, the image makes up a complete ring over the three spines as well.... that image is also a gold ring.
I'm with Duffy... at least look at the title of the last book of the second series... you might realize something is wrong with your art direction?
Related topic: anyone make it through the first book of the new series? I put it down about halfway through when I saw how predictable it was becoming and haven't picked it up again. When I do, I will probably have to start over. LOL brad added 4 Minutes and 37 Seconds later...Double Post Merged Below
In retrospect.. I guess it could have been worse... they could have put the ring on a hand... with five fingers....

I thought it was that the book in the background is more in focus than the main one in front.

There should be a required reading of the book before you get to design the cover for sure.
I haven't picked up the most recent book - I don't bother to start them until they are all released.
I'm reading the Goodkind Series, Sword of Truth, and I hate that I started so early in series, but holy cow do I love that series. A month before the new one comes out, I have to reread the previous books... lol...to make sure I'm up to speed on what's going on.

Well, you have to do that less with Goodkind than with lots of other series. He repeats himself alot, at least on the stuff that you need to know for the present book. And he also tends to throw away great stuff that he used in previous books: like the Gars, the dragon. Again and again, Richard makes really cool relationships, only to have the characters disappear.
Anyway, Jordan and now George RR Martin have made me adopt a policy of never starting any series until its actually done. I haven't read the last three Goodkind books yet, but I will get around to it soon.

Which brings to mind a major annoyance. Why is it whenever I discover a new series at the bookstore, that they either don't have the first book, or they've got numbers 1, 3,and 4?
Sorry to hijack. :D
Back to the subject, I haven't started the new series, either. I need to go back to the beginning first. However, as I recall, it was a bear to wade through at times.

I also said 'Doh!' How could they get that so wrong?!!
I have read both books (so far) of the new series, the first one is slow but the second one gets better.

The only book I have ever walked out and thrown in the trashcan. Could not even finish the book it was so bad.
