Nope, it's vanity publishing.

Thousands have probably been accepted. They pay the $6900 prize with the $69 book orders and make an additional profit. You'll continue to get offers to purchase the book in various forms.

I fell for it early on too.

While it's technically true that being published in a vanity publication means you're "published" (the book will have an ISBN number, I'm sure), most authors, photographers, and publishers don't consider one being published until the publisher is the one footing the bill, and more important to the contributor, that the contributor will receive some sort of royalty for his/her work. One notable exception to this is being published in academia, where the author may not receive a royalty.

Don't fret. At least the pic you submitted really IS good.

Like you said, at least you didn't buy the book. I bought the book

After I bought it, I'd get a new notice every 3 months or so that a special edition was coming out and I should buy it too. That lasted over a year.

for $69 or less - thereabouts, you can publish your own book, say with blurb company.
and its actually pretty fun to do. Everyone should do it at least once :)

That's a vanity press and not worth it. As suggested, try blurb or other places like even Apple/Mac. A good source to get something published is the Photographers Market Guide, comes out every year for at least twenty years now, I use it with great success. All the best, rg sends!
