Question What Program Should I use for Business Cards? - 02-10-2009, 11:08 AM

I was thinking Illustrator for the design, as I have the CS3 Master Collection.(LEGALLY ACQUIRED) I wasn't sure if that was THE BEST program for the job, though. Also, what program should I use for the template?

Thanks in advance,
Taylor

Illustrator is best since it's vector based.
No template needed. A standard business card is 3.5"x2"

Just out of curiousity, did I post in the wrong section for this kind of inquiry?

I use an old version of Quark Xpress and provide PDFs to the printer. It works really well. I can see using Photoshop in the same way.

True, but most printers will want some bleed room. I've used vista print to print and sent them tiff files. Worked great so far.

ya, you add bleed if you have color/graphics to the edge, but the card is still 3.5x2. If you use illustrator you can send in any format you want. Tiff, eps, pdf, illustrator, jpg, etc. It's a heck of a lot easier to design in illustrator and it's a heck of a lot easier to make changes in illustrator. IMPO, it's better to keep all identity work in Illustrator, Quark or Indesign. Leave photoshop for your photos.

Go to Overnight Prints to get a layout template for Photoshop.

Just don't use PhotoShop for the text like others have said.

Have you ever seen an ad in a magazine where the text edges were jagged and not a smooth line? If so that is how Photoshop produces text. Illustrator like DCCreative said is a better program because it is Vector based and creates smooth lines for the text. I don't know about the newer versions of Photoshop but this used to be the case a few years ago.

Good, Because I have been using Photoshop...!!! I don't notice a problem. I looked carefully at my own business cards, and the NILMDTS cards and don't see any issues...hope I'm not missing something!!!
