Is this Deep Ellum? - 02-11-2009, 09:24 PM

I am 22 right now and I havn't been to Deep Ellum since I was about 10 or so. From what I remembered, it was a jazy, artsy place with lots of live music and clubs/bars. I walked around downtown for a few hours today looking for the area. Eventually, I found signs that pointed towards an area. This area was like a small ghost town in the middle of a large city. I got some pix and need to know if this was the remains of Deep Ellum? Oh, if I'm spelling the place wrong, sorry. After I got home, I remembered a small square-type area from way back when. I never saw this, and this made me think that I didn't actually find Deep Ellum. Here are the pix:

The area of DPSS (Elm Street) is not Deep Ellum, it's considered downtown. Deep Ellum would be a little further east of where you were located (east of 75).

Here's the wikipedia definition (take it for what its worth, usually not a whole lot):

"Deep Ellum (a corruption of "deep Elm Street") is an arts and entertainment district near downtown in east Dallas, Texas (USA). It lies directly east of the elevated I-45/US 75 (unsigned I-345) freeway and extends to Exposition Avenue, connected to downtown by, from north to south, Pacific, Elm, Main, Commerce, and Canton streets. The neighborhood is north of Exposition Park and south of Bryan Place. (See Deep Ellum Blues for maps.)"

The area is in decline for sure, but it comes and goes. Deep Sushi, however is a nice place to eat if you're down there!

You're just west of Deep Ellum. The western border of the Deep Ellum area is generally the 75/North Central freeway.
