KEH Issues? - 02-17-2009, 10:50 AM


I made my first purchase from KEH on 2/6 (a Canon 580EX flash...). Since 2/6, my order has been listed as pending (there have been no charges to my card). I e-mailed a little over 24 hours ago with no response. According to their website, they update their website every 3 hours to make sure that what is listed is current. I've checked multiple times throughout the last 11 days to see if their stock had changed, which it had, so I just figured that they needed to get the item in. However, over the last few days their inventory of 580EX flashes has not changed.

Is this typical of KEH? I might call them this afternoon to see what is up.

Yeah, phone call is my next step. Will probably (hopefully) get it done today.

I had heard great things about them, so I didn't have a problem ordering, but I might re-think...

Yup call them up, they'll clear up any situation right away. BTW, your orders will always show as pending on your account no matter what. As soon as they charge your cc, they'll ship.

They need better software for their back-end, and even the front-end search engine for that matter. I took a peek at their front end script and it should be featured on TheDailyWTF.com

I have used them a number of times and never had a problem. I would definitely call them - sounds like something is lost somewhere in cyberspace. They have always been responsive to me. I do usually call and order over the phone, though - I just like talking to a live person when buying anything camera related.

Yeah, Viet, I didn't even have to look at their coding to know it sucked. I also figured everything was pending until actually shipped.

Looks as if I'm giving them a call!

Interesting, having to talk to a live person is a deal-breaker to me!

Ordinarily, I like to just order online, but if I am buying anything used, I do like to ask questions and have found them very knowledgable, friendly and low-key (i.e., no pressure), so I'll generally call.

Wow! Just got off the phone with them. Apparently, the Monday after the Friday I placed the order they attempted to call me, which I had no voice mail (he said the records showed a voice mail). Something happened and the "security" on my card didn't go through, so they couldn't process the order and since I didn't answer, canceled the order. He had record of my e-mail from yesterday morning and was very apologetic for not having a reply from them.

Real quick 7 minute conversation explaining everything, finding a similar condition product, charging my credit card, and off I went. It's going to be two weeks exactly from original order to receipt of product, but in the end, great experience.

Glad I called! Thanks everyone!

Kenneth, I always call them if it is something I really want. Online orders always go UPS; frequently if you talk to one of the salesmen, they will change to USPS.

I had something like that happen. The short version is that since I was a new customer and the internet is full of fraud they were being cautious. KEH is a good company. I typically call two days after placing the order just to make sure that they got it.

BTW- emails aren't reliable. There have been cases of scam artists emailing the company and badgering or coercing them into making the sale. It's best to call...

I just received my ZD 35-100mm f/2 from them, and it arrived without a hitch and it's in perfect condition I'm glad your situation got rectified. They're a great reseller even if their site is a bit slow/behind the curve programming-wise; they still have real people answering the phones.

I prefer talking to a real person, especially when it comes to used equipment. Can't put a price on expert advice, either.
