No, really. How does it work? Can anyone reccomend any books or on line tutorials. Can't install it till I get home in the morning. It's not going to blow up my computer, right?

Check out a half-price book store - should be plenty of old manuals/how-tos floating around for it.

Alot of it will be just hands on learning and trying, and there are a ton of online photoshop tutorials.

Agreed, ive gotten a few really, really good books at half price for like $8. One was brand new and came with a CD, called Adobe Photoshop 7 for Photographers. It was $7.98. Ive also got Photoshop 7 Bible Professional edition, also for $7.98. They both look like they've never been opened. There have always been a good selection every time ive looked.

Edit: The retail price on each of those books was over $50 each, so yeah, heck of a deal!

I have Elements 6 and the book Photoshop Elements 6 for Photographers, as the program has moved along to Elements 7 the new book has come out for it. I think as long as you have a little bit of knowledge as far as just opening and closing files and such then the Elements 7 book should be great, as it shows how to do many types of enhancements. The book is not going to go thru and be a guide for each and every tool in the program, but more as a reference to do specific modifications to photos.

Personally I would suggest using the Photoshop 7 serial number to just upgrade to CS2 or CS3. Won't cost much and Photoshop has evolved quite a bit.

Definitely something to consider soon since the upgrade eligibility changes from year to year. I just came across this issue when I was wanting to upgrade from Macromedia Studio MX to Adobe Design Standard or Premium, but the upgrade price was only for Macromedia Studio MX 2004 and Macromedia Studio 8.

Even though PS7 is somewhat long in the tooth by today's reckonings, it's still a powerful program and will do most anything you're likely to need. I'd at least spend a bit of time getting myself familiar with it before attempting the upgrade to CS3 or 4.

Hmmm . . . something's just occurred to me. If your friend upgraded from the copy of PS7 he gave you to CS3 or 4, I doubt you'll be able to use it again for an upgrade.

I learned PS on version 7 and while I have CS3, I don't use the extra features much.

CS4 is Photoshop 11. Adobe only allows a 3 version upgrade so it won't go to CS4. I suppose you might find a CS3 upgrade package somewhere.

I have Photoshop 5.5. Still works!

You may not have this problem with 7, but mine doesn't read EXIF data. :-)
