Anyone interested in meeting in East Texas? - 02-21-2009, 05:19 PM

Hi there,

I would like to know if anyone would like to get together in the East Texas area? I am from Marshall, Texas and would be willing to travel for an hour in either direction.
Some ideas for locations:
  • Marshall Texas Depot
  • Marshall Court House
  • Caddo Lake
  • American Rose Garden (Shreveport)
  • Rose Garden (Tyler)

I am open to any other ideas for locations and suggestions of when.

Thanks
Tony

East Texas has several interesting places, though I haven't been out there in several years. I used to live in Longview, and I often went to Marshall for work, besides Tatum, Henderson and Gilmer.

I might be interested in a trip in a few months, though I have so many trips planned for this year that I probably won't be able to take, I don't know that I have time and money to take one out to East Texas.

I am retiring back to my hometown of Alto, just south of Rusk. Tyler area might be a good magnet area for regular get-togethers of the many scattered East Texas TPF participants. Keep me on your list.

I might be interested later in the spring when it warms up a tad.

Does the train still go from DFW to Marshall? That might be a fun way for the DFW folks to come down

Depending on the date and what's happening, I might be in for a meet.

There was an old ice house in Marshall that I used to drive past when I was working for the newspaper (or, my other job, magazine marketer in grocery stores). I've wanted to get more photos of that building ever since, but I don't want to drive all the way to Marshall just for that. I wonder it it is still there?

There was also a very nice, but abandoned, Victorian-style, 2-story house several miles up the road. It was beginning to show signs of damage when I last saw it, now almost 11 years ago.

Shoot photos. Eating is a close second.

I have forgotten the reason, but I want to take a trip out that direction in the next 10 days or so. There is some event out there, but I can't remember what it is.
