I'm getting mine soon! It is on the mail
I know there are a lot of people here who love gadgets. Is anybody else getting it? What will be your first book? And if you don't like it... why????
The prices of the ebooks on Amazon are not very lower than the paper versions. Is there a place to get ebooks for very cheap??

I'll be interested in your review once you get it. I love to read and travel, so I'm seriously thinking about one, given how convenient it would be to travel with and not carry some heavy books. But, on the other hand, I do love a good hardback book.....so I want some reviews before I plunk down my cash for it.

I bought my wife the Sony eReader for Christmas and she loves it!
The Kindle was out of stock forever, so I went with the Sony.
I'm not really of fan of the look of the new Kindle 2, but I do like all the features. So maybe an upgrade from the sony is needed soon : )

No, I ask because its the perfect form factor for a web tablet, IMHO. The Kindle is great as a book reader.. but it could be so much more.

Mine arrived earlier today and it's on the charger. I love my original Kindle, and this one looks to be even better.
There are lots of free books in the public domain that you can get from Amazon, and apparently there are lots of other sites out there. I still have quite a few books that i haven't read yet, so i'll just be porting stuff over to the new one.
I got my first one just in time for our trip to Scotland last year, and this one will be going to France with me.

I think it's a promising technology, but right now IMHO it's overpriced for the feature set. 800x600 with 16 shades of gray shouldn't cost that much. Like most high-tech stuff, in a few years these devices will be much more capable and much less expensive. I can wait, I actually like reading 'real' books.

I got it and I love it!! It arrived on Friday and I haven't put it down during the weekend. I can not give you that much of feedback as a 'gadget', becuase it makes me feel that I'm reading out of a book. I love the convenience to be able to download books right on the spot and to even get a preview of them before I buy them.
It also has a web browser that I haven't use much because I just prefer to use the computer for that ;-) But I also enjoy to have wireless Internet free!.
Oh, also it is a MP3 player, but there is not that much space where to put music (1.6 GB available).
Color may be a nice feature, but it is not something that I need to live with to be able to enjoy books.
So far I love it, and if anyone likes to read and have the money to buy this device, go for it!!!

Reading abook is a sensual experience. The smell of the paper, the tactile feel of the surface when turning a page, the beauty of a well designed font, the wear and marks of pages which have moved one. Nothing can replace a book for the joy of reading. Using a Kindle or computer to read a book has all the sensuality of kissing your sister through a screen door.
