A player's report on getting taken to the backroom over taking pictures in the gambling areas.

He may have beaten the crime but he didn't beat the ride.

I understand their paranoia, and I can think of a number of other reasons cameras wouldn't be wanted in casinos.

Not really, I'm surprised he thought he could take pictures in the gaming areas and get by with it given all the eyes in the sky they have.

I had my SLR out while cutting through casinos in Vegas, but I was definitely being watched. I opted not to risk it.

I've never taken pics, but have openly walked around with my DSLR on me. Never been a problem.

Agreed. I wouldnt think about taking pics in the gaming area either, but the ridiculous part was that he was asked to put away the camera, complied, and still got backroomed. It would be different if he walked away and took it back out.

Like he said, there was no signage posting rules about photography in the gaming area, so im sure he looked at it as "might as well take some until they tell me not to", even though im sure he probably knew the rules otherwise.

He could file criminal charges against the casino employees for kidnapping. Or maybe the laws are different in Nevada.

Maybe I am the only one but I think he should of just showed them the pictures on the camera and he could of skipped the whole thing. If had nothing to hide why did he refuse to show them the pics, he has nobody to blame but himself. If I worked there I would of reacted the same way.

Casino's won't let you take any pics that show the gaming area, I have been stopped and told to delete pics that were in the lobby but had the gaming area in the background. I deleted them in front of the guy and moved on, no big deal. The casinos are just protecting themselves.

Why not?

I took all these with an SLR and on camera flash in various Vegas casinos. Ignore the quality, I'm just trying to prove a point.

And here are two from the Paris in Las Vegas shot with my D200:

If they ask me to leave, I am happy to leave. But I won't delete pictures for anyone. They have no law supporting that wish. No one can make you delete a picture.

Personal rights are what is being restricted here. The Casino has the right to remove you if you are violating their regulations. They do not have the right to force you to delete images. If you do it voluntarily then that is up to you.
It's always the argument by those who are abrogating your rights that "if you have nothing to hide why don't you let us.........etc."
It's not a point of having something to hide. It's a point that others do not have the right to abrogate your rights. There are legal avenues that MUST be taken. I.E. search warrant. If you come to my house and I get mad at you I don't have a right to make you stay there until you apologize.
What are the Casinos protecting themselves against ? We all get upset when someone comes out of a building and says "you can't take pictures of my building". Why don't we get upset when someone demands we destroy our personal property because we broke an unpublished rule ?

I find it funny that the casinos would worry so much about people taking pictures in open view. If I am a thief or planning something would I really have the guts to bust out my DSLR? It would be much easier to start my cell phones video camera and pretend to be talking while I scanned the room or something.

Edit: just read that he was taking pics with his cell.. that does make it a look a little more shady
