I am thinking a place with a great beach, and very laid back and not a super tourist destination.

All-inclusive would be cool, but not necessary.

Scenic and secluded.

Off the table:
St Thomas
St Maartin
Abacos
Anywhere in Mexico

The Osa Peninsula or Tahiti (Rangiroa atoll, Kia Ora Sauvage). You can sometimes get a good deal on the Cook Islands, too. Fiji is also beautiful. Or, if you really want to spend some money (but it's all inclusive, usually), the Maldives are beautiful! Here's just an example of a lodge in the Osa Peninsula (not the most expensive, but nice) http://www.lookout-inn.com/index.php

My wife and I got married at Sandal's Dunns River in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. It is a very touristy city, but the resort is just outside of the actual city. Everything we needed was on the resort, and we only left once to go on a shopping tour in the city.

Sandals is one of the best All-inclusive resorts in the world and I loved every second of it.

That being said, I can imagine the Osa Penninsula would be a great place to go as well. I'm probably going there in december to stay at the Bosque del Cabo resort. Roy Toft is doing his yearly photography workshop and i'm doing all i can to attend it.

My oldest daughter went to St. John's for their honeymoon. It is near St. Thomas, but not nearly as "touristy" They really liked it. It's not on the cruise ship map.

Tortola is a beautiful place and way not touristy. It's part of the BVI and quick hop from St. Thomas.

Anguilla. Hands down - some of the most beautiful beaches in the Carribean, very laid back, very friendly, very un "touristy" (i.e., no major shopping areas loaded with tourist crap) and great food, although they have been developing it more and more. It's still small and pretty quiet. We honeymooned at Cap Juluca - which was romantic, luxurious and oh so special. http://www.capjuluca.com. We've been back two other times - both times renting villas (not at Cap Juluca), which is a more reasonable way to go (although Anguilla is not, no matter what, an inexpensive island to visit).

It is just a short hop to St. Martin, but it is world's away in attitude. It's the kind of place you can go to Gwen's (a little beach bar/restaurant), have lunch and then spend the day napping in a hammock under some of Gwen's trees with no one bothering you. The island itself is pretty scrubby, but the beaches and the people are fantastic. One place you can't miss for lunch is Scilly Cay: http://www.scillycayanguilla.com/main.html

More on dining: http://www.anguilla-vacation.com/dining_intro.htm One of the best restaurants is Blanchard's: http://www.blanchardsrestaurant.com/restaurant.htm

My other choice would be Petit St. Vincent or Palm Island down in the St. Vincent & the Grenadines chain. Again, very low key (both of those are all inclusive), very private, romantic.

I can send you links to some other villas we've looked at if you are really interested.

One of my favorite layed back caribbean spots is St Martin... the french side. The dutch side of the island is too touristy.

There are some smaller islands in The Bahamas that are "off the map" when it comes to most tourists and would fit the bill. I've only been to Paradise Island/Nassau, which does NOT fit your requirements.

Have you considered belize, and its islands, they speak English, 2hr flight from IAH. Inland on the mainland has some good gungle desitinations also.

If you want islands, the most popular is San Pedro, touristy, but not over the top touristy. Caye Caulker will offer about the same but less touristy. Black Bird Caye is a resort on its own island, only about a dozen cabannas on the island so there will be very few people there, go here if all you want to do is be by yourself, lay on the beach, fish, and dive/snorkle the barrier reef. Placencia is also very nice, its a penensula down on the southern mainland.

I lived in Belize for 15yrs, so if have any questions just ask.

Bonaire, Little Cayman, San Salvador Island Bahamas.

My wife and I spent a week at the Columbus Isle Club Med on San Salvador Island for our honeymoon. Beautiful place with diving, dining, and beaches. As private as you want it to be and it's nothing like the usual club med. Very upscale. Check it out.

Domenica. Wonderful rainforest and very secluded.

Saba, except the beach is a bit lacking, but very secluded and spectacular rainforest environment.

I've heard nice things about St. Kitts, too.

Um, Duffy, I didn't think Saba had much beach at all? It is supposed to be a very cool little place, but if you want beach, that would not be my choice. Now, if you dive and want clear, deep wall dives, I hear it is great.

I just had that thought, too. I love Belize! The islands are beautiful, and it's not very toursity, still reasonably priced, and you never have to wear shoes on the island! Plus, there's some wonderful rainforest resorts on the mainland on the Guatemala border.

OK so "a little lacking" might be a bit of an understatement. But the place is so cool, and so few people know about it, that I thought I would give it a plug.
