How should i go about obtaining a press pass to take pictures at shows because there are about 12 good ones coming up in my area in the next month and i am trying to get a website up but want some concert shots up.

You'll more than likely have to have a media outlet obtain them for you... (newspaper, magazine, etc..) Pretty difficult to get them otherwise. You can always contact the band and try however.

Jeff,

What venues are the shows at?
Here in Houston, it mostly depends...if it's Clearchannel events, good luck...otherwise, most other venues are fine with it.

occasionally a band (or record label) will deny us shooters.

getting a pass is your best bet, contact the venue, promoters, record labels, and the band/band manager

the big one i want to shoot is killswitch engage and chiamira in lubbock. i would like to shoot the mudvayne one in midland tx. I dont know how to go about contacting the record company. Should i just call them up and be like hey can i take pictures at the show on this date. or how could i get intouch with the tour manager

I've shot a decent amount of gigs and for the big shows, I have found the best contact to be the band's PR company. Contacting the band directly is usually a waste of time, and this type of thing is why they hire PR companies. I shot one a few weeks back with a press pass by sending a simple email to the band's PR company. Check out my blog for the pics

good luck getting the MC pass. the few media cred passes i have had where obtained for me via a friend's mag

i wish i had a MC pass when i was at the Slipknot show Sat, i had a great location.

i could have done the slipknot show in dfw because one of my friends is the touring keyboardist for coheed and cambria but i did not feel like driving to dallas turning around and driving back the same day as i had work the next day

i was told by a promotion company out of lubbock i could take pictures at there shows if i wanted as long as they got some copies of them. My next question is what all should i take when i start taking pictures at there shows as i have never taken any of concerts before and any certain techniqe to it.
