A million doesn't get you what you think. Take off the taxes and you are down to about $650K. A 1800 sq. ft. 3Br house in a decent part of LA will run you in excess of $1 million. Put the $650K into that as a down payment and you are still left with a $350 mortgage, no money left, and no job. If you think the shopping sprees and stuff would be nice, it might seem that way in the short run, but then you are broke again with a spending habit that is hard to break. There is a reason lottery winners frequently end up broke and worse off before they "hit it big."

The lady's a nut job through and through. Check back in 5 or 10 years and you will likely find a tragic ending to all this.

Taxes? Give her the megabuck, Al Capone her butt when she fails to pay any of the taxes, and get the kids to somebody who will take care of them properly.
