I'm a girl (heh) (with my name, I sometimes have to state that first)
I got the D300 for Christmas and I have been trying to take it with me everywhere so that is doesn't sit at home and I miss something :)
SO....I've been on the lookout for something that could work as a camera bag and my purse. (I don't carry a wallet, my purse has this built in kinda thing)
If I could find a camera bag that had some spot for credit card, iphone, keys, etc...I would be happy....but I can't.
I have the LOWEPRO SLINGSHOT 200 as my camera bag...but that is way more than I want to carry on a daily basis...(there is also 5-6 lenses in there that I really don't need all the time)
I have found some girly ones on Etsy...but without being able to look at them first I'm hesitant as they are special order/no return.
I've looked at the Crumplers and I hate most of the colors...black would be perfect...but if it worked, I will be willing to deal with it. Do they have zippers, internal pockets that I could keep purse type stuff in?
Ugh - I've been looking since Christmas and I'm getting frustrated.
Any ideas?
Oh yeah....thank you....I'm going crazy here, I have this incredible camera sitting on my desk and it is making me nuts :) (I do carry it sometimes without a bag...and that makes me even crazier!) lol

Have you checked out www.cambags.com? There are reviews and photos of the bags and configurations people have put them in. Kata has the 3n1 bags which can be worn like a backpack or a sling(left or right) with the top compartment for the personal items and the bottom portion for the cam and glass.
I'm a boy, so I know little about purses other than theyre expensive bags. :)
EDIT: To add, I use a ThinkTank UrbanDisguise 60 which I have my cam and laptop.

You need to get Jessica Claire's bags. That would be perfect for you. I will try and find the link. I'm not sure they have cc slots and stuff, but they are just like purses.

Tenba messenger bags work real well too. They come in various sizes with lots of pockets. I carry that bag when I don't want to carry my purse and it works great. You could check one out at any major camera retailer.

I have found that, when I can't find exactly what I need, I'm better off making it for myself. I did this years ago with a camera bag -- made my own inserts for the cameras and lenses, and designed things so they fit the bag perfectly. You might try the same, if you can find a purse that has the pockets you want and the room to hold a camera and the lenses/accessories you want to carry.
For the compartmentalized inserts, I used closed-cell foam rubber, which you can buy in sheet form at sporting goods stores. It's normally used to be placed between a sleeping bag and the ground, and acts as an insulator/moisture barrier. After working out a design for the bag interior, I cut the closed foam into component pieces, then glued the pieces together with super glue. I even had a couple of compartments with hinged covers. I used pieces of denim cut from old jeans as the hinges, supergluing them to the covers and the compartment sides.
Things held together well. I used the bag for years until the bag wore out -- but the compartment design I made didn't.

Try this too http://www.jill-e.com/medium_bags/med_blk_cb.html
Last time I was down at HCE they had a couple in stock, not sure if they still do, but Amazon and HSN sell them as well. I have the size I linked too above, but they have other sizes and fabric choices as well. And I really love it =)

Shawn,
I am in Katy too....if you want to take a look at what I use you are more than welcome....
I purchased a messanger from Fossil that I use...it is padded enough to lay the camera in there...and then I use lens pouches to keep the lenses safe...quick to get too..and does not look like a camera bag....
For you this will be like a big purse...but it might be a way to go...
Good luck...oh and by the way....there is no perfect bag....just one that get by....

Have you looked at the shoot sacs?
They are standard black, with 'flaps' that you can change out. They are SUPER cute, and SUPER handy... and you could toss a wallet in there if you wanted.

Thank you !!
I'm leaning towards the Shootsac....but I am also leaning toward finding a little bit bigger purse and then making my own neoprene bag for the camera to be in inside my purse.
Thanks again for your replies!

A second for the Tenba messenger bags, they come in a couple sizes. Have slots for all sorts of stuff, pockets for phone, ipod, computer, and a camera section with moveable dividers. Fits under airline seats much better than any backpack I've owned. Not real expensive either, around $100, depending on size. And here in Austin, Precision Camera had them in stock so I could actually take all my stuff and try it in the bag. I'll bet one of the shops in Houston does too.
Look like this, from the Tenba website:

I'm a big fan of the Crumpler bags. nearly all come with internal zipper pockets and felt covered dividers that can be reconfigured as needed. Most models are available in black, last I looked at their site. Check out the 7million Dollar bag. I've got the 5Million and that's a good size for a camera and 1 or 2 lenses, but not much else. The 7 million should be big enough for your camera an extra lens and keys, phone wallet, etc. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
