A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He lowered his altitude and spotted a woman in a boat below. He shouted to her, 'Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am.'

The woman consulted her portable GPS and replied, 'You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.'

He rolled his eyes and said, 'You must be an engineer.'

'I am,' replied the woman. 'How did you know?'

'Well,' answered the balloonist, 'everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me.'

The woman smiled and responded, 'You must be a manager.'

'I am,' replied the balloonist. 'How did you know?'

"Well," said the woman, "You don't know where you are or where you are going. You've risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but, somehow, now it's my fault."

Change the word "manager" to "politician".

No, she can't change it back.... She originally had democrat and republican. I had her change it to manager and engineer.

I received the joke as an email with republican and democrat as the people in the joke. But I said...you can put whomever you want to in the joke, so don't make it political. Thus someone put in the engineer and manager.... personally I think wife and husband might fit better...!!!

If the woman is in a boat, how is she 2346 feet above sea level? Democrat/Republican or manager/engineer; none of them are living in reality.

I heard that joke sort of a different way (from 'The Car Guys' on NPR).

The woman consulted her portable GPS and replied, 'You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2346 feet above sea level..'

Then the guy in the balloon said, 'OK. Thank you. Now I know right where I am, that I'm above Redmond, WA.'

The woman said, 'How did you know that?'

The guy said, 'Well, you told me some very accurate information that was technically correct but totally useless so I could tell that you work for customer support at Microsoft."

It was funnier when The Car Guys told it.
