I ordered ATT Uverse today. I'm dumping DirectTV for my TV and Charter for my Internet. DirectTV - because I'm getting tired of losing signal during inclement weather, and Charter..... nothing really against Charter. It's just that if I'm going to have Uverse for my TV I might as well use it for my Internet, too. It WILL be sweet to have the 18Mbps connection, though.

I've heard nothing but good stuff about Uverse and can't wait to start playing with all of the new services.

Anyone want to buy a DirectTV HD satellite dish? LOL!

Congrats. I'm hoping to have options on this when I move away from the middle of nowhere!

We just got Uverse a little over a month ago. It's been good and the faster internet speed is noticeable. We didn't go as fast as you will be but it is fast enough for me. For some reason the installers wanted to hook up the TV using composite cables. I think at least for us it's a timing issue using the HDMI to DVI. I switched it back off composite to HDMI/ DVI and when I first turn it on the TV comes on before the HD receiver. I guess the receiver goes into sleep mode. I turn it off and right back on. The second time they come on about the same time so we get the good HDTV picture. A little hassle but not a big deal if you know what to do. It might just be our set up so if you go HDMI you may not have that issue. I'd like to hear about it when you get set up.

The installers were good too. One Uverse guy and the second guy was with AT&T. They knew what they were doing and I expect they new about the connection issue. I just think the digital connection gives a better picture on my set.

Congrats, I think you will enjoy Uverse.

Thanks but I've got a Direct TV HD satellite dish already.

That's weird... You order HD service and they hook it up with composite? Can't really get HD that way... LOL

When it's available here, I'll probably give U-Verse at least try out.

I've switch from time warner to uverse about 4 months ago and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I get more for less and DVRing remotely is awesome too. I opted for the faster internet and I must say it's blazing!

I did notice though, that their wireless router, even with the newest bands wasn't as strong as the good ole linksys that's so popular.

I keep thinking about it, but I have concerns about recording space on the DVR. Right now, I have about 250 hours capacity on each of my 2 DirectTV DVRs in the house. One is in our bedroom, and the other is in the living room with the kids. The ATT DVR has a pretty small drive, and it is really small if you're doing HD. When the Olympics were on, I recorded it all on each station to scan through what I wanted to see later. There's no way this one has enough room for that. I also like the separate lists for the kids and my wife and I. (Nothing bad, but they don't need to see 24 etc.) Anyone know if there is any plan to expand the drive size to at least 1TB?

I also don't think the interface is as nice as TIVO, but I could live with it. I also don't know if they have local phone in my area yet. I keep getting closer, but not there yet.

Anyone move from Dual tuner TIVOs to U-verse? What are your thoughts?

Ok, ok. So it was component. I only missed it by a few letters.

There are huge arguments about this by the audiophile set. I stay away because I don't know.

The issue is the HDMI out from the ATT box sucks, it it mostly the sound that is the problem. The work around is to use either all component or HDMI for video and component/optical for audio.

I use HDMI/Optical and am happy with the results.

I have noticed that the sound seems to be lower with AT&T than it was with Comcast. I just figured it was due to a different compression of the signal. I'm still using HDMI.

Wonder if a switch to component would make that big of a deal.

About half the time I turn mine on everything comes up and runs on the HDMI except surround sound. I just get mono. That works OK for normal TV.

I feed everything into a home theater system that has 4 HDMI in 1 HDMI out and one optical in. Component is not an option for me.

If the sound does not come on or I want surround sound on I switch to the input with the optical in. This is a common work around.

There are many people out there who don't use surround sound.

So the issue does not affect them.
