Shangri La Gardens - Orange, TX - 03-08-2009, 04:05 PM

So, while planning my trip back home to Beaumont for later this month I had a friend tell me of this place over in Orange. She sent me some cell phone pics and I was thinking this looks like a cool place. Decided to check their site since I know lot of places like this now restrict you when shooting. I came across this:

For purposes of this Policy, a professional photographer is any photographer who:

1. earns income or payment for taking photographs;
2. utilizes equipment, apparatus or gear that is beyond the level of equipment utilized by a novice or amateur photographer in order to achieve a high-quality image, including but not limited to tripods, cables, light meters, lenses, or UV filters; or
3. sells, markets, distributes, circulates or publishes the images photographed by him or her for commercial purposes or gain.

I understand #1 and #3. Really, all cameras have lenses. :) But still. I guess it's time to make a pinhole camera..

I looked over their rules.
It looks like you can pay $150 for a couple of hours of shooting just the grounds (no people) and that does not give you authorization to use any of the photos for publication, etc.

This place is run by the Photo Nazis........ No Soup for YOU.

I also think you have to buy a $150/yearly membership on top of the $150 for the couple of hours you get to shoot.

I'll go with my gear.. Their rules allow "snapshots". So if asked, yes. I am taking
"snapshots" of the gardens.
