Are they made out of real Girl Scouts? - 03-11-2009, 11:36 AM

Who else is tired of being accosted by the girls who set up in the foyer of the local grocery store? I've bought my 10 boxes from the neighborhood girls and am fat enough already.

Leave me alone!!!

Well Scott, as much as I love the cookies, and as many as I try to keep in the freezer, I hate having them sell them in front of the stores. I'll tolerate it, as long as they don't ask when I go buy. I see them, they don't have to beg..

Think maybe the Girl Scouts need to review their business plan and figure out another way to sell?

Is it just me, or are the cookies not as good as they used to be? Maybe it's just that I have to pay more for less of them now.

I have found that my tastes have changed. I used to love the coconut/carmel/choccolate ones. Now they are just too much. Now, I am finding I LOVE the peanut butter. I just finished off my last box so now I need to find another store where they are selling them.

Selling in front of stores is how they are usually sold now. I've also seen people set up on a corner and sell them out of their cars (along with puppies and stolen stereo equipment in nearby cars). Better than it used to be ... getting little knocks on your door and big puppy dog eyes expecting you to buy several boxes.

They still come to our door and YIKES I think I bought > 20 boxes this year. Luckily my teenagers think that a 'sleeve' (ie half the box) of thin mints is ONE serving! Not many left for me. Unfortunately I still love those coconut/caramel/chocolate ones! Yum.

Are you kidding?

I love this time of year!!!

No GS/Brownie comes around my place so my only source is the grocery stores.

I make the joke about them setting up an ambush and baiting the trap with thin mints!!!

I bought 7 boxes of Thin Mints and 4 boxes of Peanut Butter Patties just this past weekend. First time I'd seen them out. I'd love to buy more, and probably will, but freezer space is limited!!!

I've got 11 boxes so far this year, I'm sure I'll be near 20 if I see those little ambushers again!!!

and yes...I'm down to 1 per serving...1 sleeve of thin mints that is

my rule for GS cookies is that I'll buy from the Brownie/GS herself. If you're a parent, send her over and I'll buy some, but do not bring me your order sheet and expect me to do it.

Selling cookies is an experience that the girls are supposed to have in order to earn their badge. It's not something for mom and dad to take to the office and pass around at work.

as a Boy Scout I earned all my badges, they can too

My wife teaches 2nd grade and she has a simple rule when it comes to buying GS cookies, if a student in her class or any former student of hers asks, she will buy from them.

We have so many of the things in our freezer right now I had to break out some venison last night just to make room for them.

BTW the new cookie, Dulce de Leche, is addicting as heck.

I haven't bought a box of those things in at least 6 years.
They need to make some high protein energy bars instead.
