First Ever TPF Photo Exchange - 03-19-2009, 02:40 PM

Whether you’re a Newbie or an Old Timer this is a great opportunity to participate in a unique print exchange. You'll receive beautiful prints. This will be the First exchange on TPF. The rules are posted below. Please respond with your request to participate so we can start filling the positions and start planning a print delivery time. Please post all questions here so everyone can share the info.

Schedule:
Sign up ends April 5, 2009 Midnight
May 5: Mail photos to be exchanged This should give you plenty of time to print.
May 16: I return to you new photos from your group for you to admire, display and enjoy.
May 25th Post a photo here of your submission. Let’s make everyone jealous who did not choose to have fun with us! Let’s make sure we wait until then. That way everyone’s Photo Package will be a surprise!

How this works:
Choose a photo and get ready to print. Once everyone has signed up, the number of prints required will be announced. This will depend upon how many choose to join in the exchange. If we have more than 4, I will divide into groups. Groups will be made in the order in which you signed up or maybe scrambled.
Example: Joe, Jim, Judy, Jeff and Justin mail 4 prints according to the specs posted to the exchange facilitator (me). I then sort out these prints so they each group member receives one print from each member of their group. Bob, Bill, Brenda, Ben and Beau mail me 4 prints each according to the specs posted. I sort these prints out so they too receive one print from each member of their group. Everyone receives four prints, one print from each of their group members.

The group size may change, as the number of participates are determined, but not too large so as not to burden us all financially.

There is monetary cost involved. Each participant is responsible for suitable packing materials and postage for a round trip. We will limit Group size to 10 or less, if possible to keep postage charges down.
1. Deadline for signup April 5th
2. Mail Photos to Janice Date: May 5
3. Prints mailed back to you May 16. I am allowing 7 days for the mail to arrive & 4 days to package and get in the mail back to you.
4. You will need to print the amount of prints necessary for your group.
5. You will need to ship these prints to me (Dallas TX)
6. You will need to include a return envelope WITH POSTAGE so that I can mail your exchange photos to you. Make sure you have your return address and mailing address on the envelope.
7. Print Specs
Subject: Anything goes, print subject you want to share.
Photo must be YOURS Duh. Take with ANY camera.
Black & White or Color
Wet darkroom or digital prints any type of print is fine
NO larger than 11x14" paper
NO smaller than 8x10" paper
Image area can be any size as long as it is on paper from 8x10" to 11x14"
NO Mats due to added shipping weight
NO Mounted prints due to added shipping weight
Include an info sheet for each photo on your tech specs, location, etc.
Filters/Digital Manipulation OK
2008 creation date desired, but not necessary we really don’t care, this time.

For packaging I would recommend, a heavy cardboard mailer. Make sure after you find the weight you then put that postage on the return envelope. Make sure you put your return address too. Your Return envelope should be large enough to fit the number of prints you mail in 11x14 prints. I will reuse your cardboard packing. Participants should put their names and addresses as both the From: and the To: on the envelope.
These instructions will get refined as time moves on.

If you are going to participate, post your name here and I will respond with acknowledgment. As soon as the lists are completed, I will publish them along with shipping info. I, like most of you, work for a living. I will respond at least once during the day looking for messages. I am opened to suggestions, but I think we can get this going if you are serious. You will need to get going with your image selection, printing and mailing of prints.
PS. This all started with Wayne and Wesley! What a fun idea.

I'll play, though I wish you'd allow canvas...

I don't see a problem with canvas but most you will get will be on paper. As long as you understand that I am sure no one will complain.
I will add you Bill.

this may be silly but as a college student I am wondering what approximate amount I can expect to spend on something like this?

I am very interested just making sure I am going to be able to afford all these prints... then there is finding something worth printing as well.. hmm

Silver gelatin or inkjet?

I am involved in another print echange. I made 10 inkjet prints @ $1-$2 ea., a guess. Less than $10 for materials and postage going out. I enclosed a $20 bill for return materials and postage. If I get some change, great. If not, no worries. So what is that? Math Fizz $40-$50 spread over two months? It's hard to place a value on inkjet prints as I already had ink in the printer. Silver prints might be a few dollars less.

ps: We will make every effort to keep the print total at 10 or less.

Everyone has something worth printing.
