Tragedy in Oakland - 03-22-2009, 10:44 AM

My heart goes out to the families and friends of three slain police officers in Oakland.
I know that many law enforcement people are members of this forum, and I know that they are devastated by this tragedy.
They risk it all every time they put on the uniform, and we sometimes forget that when things go bad, they are our friends.

Yep, there are plenty of fools in the world, and they always seem to bring a lot of misery with them, wherever they go.

It's sad.

boy NO kiddin our public servants both police and firefighters put it ALL on the line every day and are fast forgotten or ignored by many until they need them.
Three lost their lives and one more may not survive all over a WORTHLESS SOB on a parole violation. At least hes dead too !!!!!

This saddens me in so many ways. I was born in Oakland and worked in the SF Bay Area (just across the bridge from Oakland) for 15 years. I have had the privilege of working side by side with many OPD officers. While I don't personally know these officers, I feel a heavy heart all the same.

Here's a quick graphic I put together.

Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.

A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.

The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.

While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.

He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died

Heartbreaking.
