Factory warranty scam - 03-23-2009, 09:34 PM

Anybody keep getting these annoying calls telling you that the warranty on your car is about to expire? I get them all the damn time. Now tonight I get something in the mail with no return address, no business name, with only the same phone number for contact.

Where do these people get my mobile phone number, full name, and address from?

Ugh, daily! And now they come to my cell phone. Everytime, it's from a different state and the phone number is not an 800 one, so I answer it thinking it's a potential client. They are driving me nuts! I haven't gotten quite as many in the past couple of weeks, though. I've heard they busted one of the companies doing it.

Yes, and now they are coming on my business line in addition to my personal line and my cellphone. Can we compare info to see if it is the same people? Is there someone we could complain to, even if it were?

Try here. http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm I filled them out every time I get one and really they seem to have slowed down considerably from what I was getting.

I get these daily - at home, at work and on my cell. Heck, my car warranty expired in 2007, yet I continue to get a "final" calls. I'm with Leslie - they are always different #'s that I think may be people I know, which is the only reason I answer the darn phone. It's annoying.

I get these on my work phone on a weekly basis. My car has been out of warranty for five years now.

They must get your cell phone number from the dealer or the company that issued the original warranty.
As a precaution I think twice about giving a car dealer my cell phone number.
Not really sure if that helps.

It's strange that these calls are only on the cell phone- not the home phone.

you can google the phone number and find others who've had the same problem. You can also report the numbers to the FCC.

The big thing to remember is that unsolicited calls like this to your cell phone are illegal. Also if you're number is registered on the Governments DNC list they can be subject to fines etc.

Report them every single time.

They slowed down for a while, but in the past few days it seems to have picked up again.

I used to get those calls, but if you listen through the message there should be a thing at the end where you can ask them to cancel. It worked for me at least

I use to just hang up on them until someone told me to listen all the way though. I was getting the calls once a month or so. But then I listened to one call all the way through, selected the option to "opt out" ... and the flood gates opened... now I get several a week, from different originating numbers, for products I don't even own. It is as if selecting that option opened the floodgates and released my number to the world as "a number with a person on the other end." Perhaps that was just coincidence.

That's the way a lot of spam emails work. I you click on Unsubscribe it just lets them know that someone actually got the email so they start sending more.
