I was nosing around Goodwill today, buying a few books for my son and a two rolls of slightly expired 35mm film to play with. At the register I noticed a camera on the wall behind the cashier. I asked her if I could see it and it turned out to be a Yashica Electro 355 GSN rangefinder camera in great shape. And for $25.95 to boot! So I said what the heck, and gave into the dark side (they have cookies!) and bought it too.
The mechanics work great but the battery was an old 5.6v mercury battery and shot. So I went and bought four LR44 button cells and cobbled together a new battery from them, a flathead bolt and nut that was just the right size, and some shrink wrap and pasteboard. And now I have a EXCELLENT rangefinder camera! Flash works, exposure meter and shutter all work great. Wow, what a day!
