She Who Must Be Obeyed, told me that this weekend we are driving to Abilene to see friends. I decided to go visit the Robert E. Howard house in Cross Plains, and on the way back go through Dublin and get some DP. Anything else in the area?

If you're coming through Stephenville, there's the Stephenville Historical House Museum. They'll be having a plant fair there from 9-3 on Saturday. The site is always interesting, but that could provide some interesting macro opportunities.

Hico has its Billy the Kid statue, and some neat storefronts downtown. (Try the Google Earth street view around Pecan and First, and look around from there.)

Hamilton's riverwalk is worth a stop in good weather if you're going through there. It's not much, but the birds and some butterflies like it.

If you go more towards Goldthwaite/SanSaba, the Regency Bridge is a few minutes off the beaten path (somewhat literally) but interesting, and the Beveridge Bridge (see the Regency Bridge post) is just outside San Saba on a county road.

Ft Phantom Hill just north of Abilene.

Good stuff south of town in Buffalo Gap.

The RR depot in Dublin has some good potential, altho I haven't seen it in years and I'm not sure of the status of the restoration, if any.

So it sounds like you're making a loop trip? Are you going up through Fredburg/Mason/Brady/Coleman, or Junction/Eden/Ballinger? And then if you're headed over to Dublin, I guess you're coming back down the Hwy. 281 corridor. If so, from Dublin head on over to Hico, and then take a small highway headed south to Fairy (don't remember the number, but I figure you've got a map). Then maybe you can do this place justice. I've only got this one photo, I pulled over with people in the car, jumped out and took a grab shot, and I've been meaning to go back ever since. But it's an interesting thought. Are there fairies in a "Fairy Cemetery"?

If you go to Hico you need to go to "billy the kids grave" Which is a few miles south of town.

Actually, Bushy Bill Roberts is buried in Hamliton not Hico.

Might also want to check out the supposed graves of Jesse James and John Wilkes Booth in Granbury
