What a let down - 03-31-2009, 06:41 PM

So I just got married last week and I have been receiving a lot of packages form UPS and FedEx. When I got home there were 2 packages on my door step, which was somewhat expected do to our incoming gifts. I took them to the kitchen got out a knife and opened up the top gift which was a thoughtful gift of spices. I set the box aside and quickly worked my way in to the next box. A D700 pops out. I just hit the lottery. The box did not come with a card as the other did so I looked to see who my new favorite relative was, so I could write them the best thank you card in the world. When I saw the tracking information I noticed the address was correct but the name was of my home’s previous owner.

I just had to make the hardest call of my life to UPS. I can’t believe they don’t have people sign for that kind of shipment.

Wow. That is unfortunate. Maybe if you got in contact with the previous owner and explained to them how you just got married and you thought it was a wedding present, they would let you keep it.

First of all, you did the right thing, which a lot of folks wouldn't have. Secondly, B&H requires a signature on deliveries at or over $500, I believe. I had to sign for just over $600 worth of lighting equipment a couple of weeks ago. I think that should be standard for all merchants.

but you did do the right thing
I'm surprised that it was just left on the door like that, but when my regular UPS guy is off, I sometimes get packages left like that too

Congratulations by the way!

I'm not surprised, even though my package wasnt as much, just a quarter of the cost, it was left on the doorstep.

It was the right thing to do... I've heard that the true test of character is what a person does, when no one is watching.

I don't necessarily believe in the concept of 'Karma'... I'm not a buddist... ;-) But I do think that there are blessings that come your way when you do the right thing.

Congratulations!

Unless they moved out and you moved in durring the last Two weeks, why would they have it shipped to their old address?

I have that same dream, except it's a Canon 1Ds Mark III and a 400 f/2.8.

Doing the right thing isn't always easy, but it's the right thing. Had you kept it, the thing would have been tainted with guilt and remorse! Although I'm sure the previous occupant of your house would really love some spices instead ...

Some companies, Apple for instance, almost always require a signature when shipping. Amazon.com, the purchaser must request that service at checkout.

only way I could think of that it went there was the previous owner didn't pay attention when placing his order.

sucks that it happens like that, but dang.

The previous owner has done this before; I just assumed it was another gift this time as I was expecting packages. I don’t believe she looks at her pay pal when she buys off ebay. Ohhh well….. I just ordered a nice new lens, I would hate if someone else got it.
