There are still honest people around - 04-02-2009, 04:52 PM

I was sitting in a Taco Bell in Victoria, TX earlier today. Waitin' on Discount Tire to put some new gold... err tires... on my pickup. I had taken a camera with me on the trip and I decided that I shouldn't leave it in the truck while they were working on it It might have been safer if I had left it in the truck...

Some how... some way... I walked off and left an EOS1DsMKIII with an RRS Angle Bracket, a 70-200 f2.8L IS, and a Thinktank Digital Holster 50 laying in the seat beside me when I left Ohhhh but it gets better. Victoria is 60+ miles from my house. I was half way home when I figured out that there was no camera in my seat even worse... I waited at Discount tire an additional 20 minutes after I left Taco Bell before I drove home... A little glass of unsweet tea... that's all I wanted. Instead I ended up with a years quota of stress.

The lady that waited on me saw it after I left and recognized it as the bag that I had with me when I ordered. Almost an hour and a half later I walked into the Taco Bell... surely looking like I was about to toss cookies... and she smiled and said "I thought you might be back" She wouldn't marry me I didn't have any way to give her a reward but you can bet your hind end I'll figure something out.

So... I'm living proof that God watches out for stupid people and there are still honest people in this world.

Just in case I think I'll snag a lotto ticket...

Yeah, I'm back on open talk. peeps forced me.

I'd forget buying a Lotto ticket today. You've exhausted your luck for at least a month.

A nice letter to the Taco Bell dog would look good in her resume....

I don't know what you normally shoot, but maybe offer her a complimentary print/family shoot?

And I'm so glad you ran into one of those honest folks left (now hopefully, none of you concealed weapons people accidentally shoot her)! Seriously, I would definitely write to the Taco Bell high honchos about her. You might also write a letter to the editor of the local paper recognizing her. My dad did that when a good samaritan stopped and helped them after they hit a deer (actually, I think the deer hit them) on a highway trip years ago. The lady who stopped drove them over 100 miles to their destination after their car was badly damaged and wouldn't take a dime for it. But, she did really appreciate being recognized for her good deed and I'm sure that this employee would be thrilled to be recognized as well.

Nice to hear a happy ending story!

Janice- It was a long and nauseating ride back to Victoria. I think it's something like 8 million miles... or 30...

I are one of them concealed weapons carrying losers... or I would be if I hadn't let it lapse We are trained to not shoot. Research how many CHL holders are involved in criminal acts. Tain't many...

On to the subject- I wrote Taco Bell (thanks for the link Tom). I'm going to call the manager tomorrow. Might call the Victoria Advocate too.

That was really just a joke. I'm not anti-gun (a former competitive skeet shooter), but I was pretty surprised at the number of people on this forum with concealed weapon permits (see other thread). And, having represented Colt firearms for a number of years, you'd be amazed at the stupid things that people who SHOULD know better accidentally do with their firearms - and some of the plaintiffs were law enforcement folks who REALLY should have known better. Usually, though, the shooter and the victim were one in the same. I definitely know a few people walking around without all their original parts.....and a few of those were pretty painful parts to lose.

One of those insurance policies might have reduced the stress factor for that eight million mile trip. :grin

I'd have tossed my lunch too! I'm betting that the letter to Taco Bell and the calls the manager and paper, will out shine any lotto ticket.

I once left my trumpet bag with about 6 thou in trumpets on the ground at a community college parking lot. It was about 15 miles before I figured it out.
I didn't throw up, but I think if it hadn't been right where I left it I would have needed CPR.
Been there, done that.

I know EXACTLY what you went through. 2 years ago I switched to a smaller bag for the NASCAR race at Sears Point. When the race was over I jumped onto a shuttle bus and went back to my car. As I got to my car I realized I had just left everything on the shuttle bus

Now mind you there are probably 65,000 people trying to get on and off buses, and there are probably 40 of them circling around the track at the end of the day. I managed to flag down a bus about 5 minutes later and he put the word out but I figured by that point everything was gone. 25 minutes later a security guard comes and tells me that it was found on the shuttle and would be back to me shortly.

Total relief is all I felt, and I have never went to a smaller bag again.
