It's April 3rd and my 30th birthday.
I've been thinking a lot about that Tim McGraw song in the last few months, and there's really not a single line that I can't identify with.
So... dispense with the normal "happy birthdays" and tell me what you'd do for your next 30 years. I think Ill take a moment, celebrate my age
The ending of an era and the turning of a page
Now its time to focus in on where I go from here
Lord have mercy on my next thirty years
Hey my next thirty years Im gonna have some fun
Try to forget about all the crazy things Ive done
Maybe now Ive conquered all my adolescent fears
And Ill do it better in my next thirty years
My next thirty years Im gonna settle all the scores
Cry a little less, laugh a little more
Find a world of happiness without the hate and fear
Figure out just what Im doing here
In my next thirty years
Oh my next thirty years, Im gonna watch my weight
Eat a few more salads and not stay up so late
Drink a little lemonade and not so many beers
Maybe Ill remember my next thirty years
My next thirty years will be the best years of my life
Raise a little family and hang out with my wife
Spend precious moments with the ones that I hold dear
Make up for lost time here, in my next thirty years
In my next thirty years

Well... it's time to get back in the game.

Happy Birthday! Hope it's a good one.
I really don't think I will make it another 30 years as I am 62, but with technology today who knows. In any case I hope you receive your wished for the next 30 years. Again Congrats.

Hmmm, my advice......just keeping an open mind to whatever comes along - whether career, family, life. The one thing I do know about life after 30 is that there are lots of curveballs waiting for you - some are really awesome, hit it out of the park fun and exciting ones and others are painful and difficult. But, the people who stay open to possibilities seem to weather the storms the best and continue to grow and thrive. Happy Birthday. | | | |

There's a brilliant guy who says that the difference between who you are 'now' and who you'll be 30 years from now are the books you read, and the people you meet.
I'd make sure that I was constantly learning & growing by reading... and that I kept myself open to meet new people, and do new things.

here's a tip from a guy who has been married for more than those 30 years: don't worry about the next 30 years. Take care of today, just today, each and every day. Thinking too much about "30 years from now" will detract from the here and now.
Do that and the 30 years will do just fine. (but i do understand what you are saying....)
and have a great birthday, even tho much of the actual day is gone already!

First of all -- Happy Birthday!
When I hit thirty, I felt like I had my good years ahead of me. I was finally starting to learn from my mistakes, and life was really taking a turn for the new. I was just stepping out of the Army into a new career, I was learning new things on a daily basis, and had a few good friends that I could count on through thick and thin.
As I start to push really hard towards 40, I find my self in a bit of a rut. Stuff aint nearly as new as it was ten years ago, and the months are clicking by like weeks used to. I still feel like I have a lot of great years ahead of me, but there are a few bucket list items that, if I wass to attempt now, I am not sure they wouldn't be what killed me.
For my next thirty, I do hope that I remember to try to jump out of the daily ruts every now and again, and I am going to make a conscious effort to travel a bit more (even if it's just local travel -- within four or five hours of the house)
Thanks for posting the question and allowing me to kinda think out loud on this one!
---------------------------
Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

I passed thirty a couple years ago. I just figured out how to enjoy being young; I figure it will take me thirty more to figure how to enjoy being...not young. Hopefully by then I won't care that I need to get ready to be old.
In the mean time I'm going to try to stop worrying about the stuff I can't do anything about. And be a bit more serious about the things I can make better.

I'd make sure that I was constantly learning & growing by reading... and that I kept myself open to meet new people, and do new things. | Except when you hit 35 you can't seem to remember the books you read last week. Don't ask me how I know! But I never forget a friend. And a stranger is just somebody you haven't met yet.
As for Mr. McGraw's song, life is too short to eat more salads, even if you really, really like them. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
