Who inspires you? - 04-05-2009, 12:04 PM

Who are the photographers HERE AT TPF that inspire you? Who's work do you always seek out in order to study and learn? I know that there are a ton of photographers here at TPF, and we all look for different things in each other's work. For example, I don't spend much time in the Weddings forum because I don't do weddings. I'm sure that there are a ton of awesome wedding photographers out there but I wouldn't be lookin at their work because I don't do weddings. However, for the things that I DO shoot the photographers that inspire me are (in no particular order):

Scott Watters (srwatters)
Mike Fulton (MyKey)
Joe Lorenzini
Wil Bloodworth (Park Imaging)
Will Pattison (barP)
Bob Levey (blevey)
Russell Graves (russell)

For weddings, Boldimagery (jason) hands down. For photojournalism, photojournalist (Khampha) hands down. They don't post much, but these guys are incredible. Also, Kyle Coburn is awesome for weddings, but I don't know his screen name. So is Tyler, in Austin. Again, don't know his screen name.

I won't even begin to name names. There's way too many. If I started, I'd think of another and be back editing my post about everyday. One thing for sure is, I would have to look at every category because some excel in areas I don't even try.

I am inspired by commercial portrait photographers like

Dan Sellers in Dallas
David Tejada in Denver
Neil Turner in the U.K.
Dan Winters in Austin
Roy Cox in Baltimore
Kevin Brusie in Maine

And some figures from the history of photography

Henri Cartier-Bresson
Albert Watson
Arnold Newman
Bruce Davidson,
Mary Ellen Mark,
Karsh, Newton, so many others...

And painting:

Velazquez,
Tiziano,
Caravaggio,
Rembrandt,
and many others.

There are several folks here from whose work I learn something or might actually be inspired. I won't name them, but they know who they are based on comments I've made about their images in the past. :-)

Also, I encourage you to look beyond TPF for additional inspiration. There are many, many highly-talented photographers who never post to a web forum, but their work is considered some of the best in the field.

Oops, I missed the "HERE AT TPF" part! Ignore my post as it's irrelevant to the question.

There's a bunch here on TPF that inspire me. Some are so good that they inspire me to reach to their height. Some are so bad that I am inspired to keep shooting to help balance the scales.

Good ones in no particular order"

Joe Lorenzini
Mike Fulton and Cody et al
Bob Levey
Russell Graves
Leslie Spurlock
Darryl
Tracy Hicks
Scott Waters

Bad ones in no particular order
-just kidding of course

If you didn't make the list, it's likely I just couldn't get everybody who inspires me in one take.

Here?

In no particular order... Leslie, Darryl, TriCoast, Heather... plenty of others, but those came to mind first.

As many have said, there are many photographers here that inspire in their own ways -

Don Barnes for his continuous support and willingness to provide some guidance and help to fledgling head scratchers like myself ...

Captain Tom of course inspires with his wit and keeping us entertained...

My only regret is that I wish I could spend more "actual" time interacting with people doing some "real" photo shoots, instead of through this virtual connection.
