pro shoulder shooter - post yours - 04-06-2009, 10:13 AM

While I was shooting post ceremony posed shots, this lady came up behind me and directed the bride and groom with such confidence and force for her photo ...with a disposable. I was bewildered. I pronounced, "alright, you get one shot, then I need to get back to work". ..she was like "huh?" got her shot then left. Funny stuff.

Anyone else have and photos or their shoulder shooters?

I've seen that woman at every wedding I've ever shot....I think she's a pro shoulder shooter. It was either her or her sister!

Actually, when I photographed weddings, I never allowed anyone to take over, until was through.

We keep saying it's the photographer who takes photos and not the camera ... she's taking it to the extreme.

Take over? No. Sometimes I will continue to step in front of them.. on them.. bump them.. I've also been known to tell the crowd that they can shoot, but they have to turn their flashes off or else it will interfere with what I'm doing..

Second shot a wedding a month or so ago and had an interesting shoulder shooter. The contracted videographer thought it necessary to set up in the isle (half of the isle) right where we were doing formals. Didn't even bother working one leg of the tripod into the row. He even, after one of my shots, asked if that is where we were going to be shooting the rest of the formals because my elbow was in his shot. He kept tweaking his video light, so some of our shots had the light on, some not. Can't imagine what he needed all that footage for, but oh well. Here's the evidence:

I had a hard time even getting into the crowd to shoot the "First Dance" at this wedding in New Mexico. I finally just pushed my way through...and got the shot, but I got some dirty looks.

I call this the "Point and Shoot Paparazzi"

And here is the shot that I eventually got...

I still laugh when someone hands me a P&S to take a picture for them and there is no viewfinder. And then I see pics like those above where everyone is holding the camera away from their face to aim and take a pic with.

I am not a wedding photographer but I have done one recently and my instructions to the bride and groom were, me first then anyone else can shoot as they want. But I got all my shots first.
