New LED TV from Samsung - 04-08-2009, 03:18 PM

Anyone have one of these yet??

Samsung TV

Is it worth it? Or should I just wait a couple of months and let the price come down 50%?? :)

Seriously thinking about getting one of these for the media room and getting rid of the projector..

If you got one, PM me and let me know what you think..

I just bought the Samsung 55" 6000 LED LCD TV last Monday from Fry's. It FANTASTIC!!!!!!! OMG, it's like looking out a frackin' window. It has the same picture quality as the 7000 in your link but without some of the features that didn't interest me.

My old 56" 1080i DLP died about two weeks before so I was using a 30" computer monitor hooked to my DirecTV HDDVR to watch TV and that royally $uck3d. If I'd had a choice to wait until summer to buy I would have so that the price could come down but I was in withdrawal for my HD home theater.

It was a toss up between the Samsung 52" 650 model and the Samsung 55" 6000. I liked the 55" because it was near the same size as my dead TV and the picture was better and brighter than the 650 (which got great reviews, BTW). However, I'm glad I went with the better TV despite the extra price. I've invested a lot of bucks in my 7.1 home theater audio nirvana with a B&K receiver and B&W speakers. Finally moving to a 1080p TV was video nirvana.

I work with a guy that installs high-end home theater systems as a side job. He said there's a lot of buzz about LED right now and that it seems that is the way to go. He said plasmas and DLPs are on the way out and to only get one if you're only concerned with the price. He also said that he's seeing inventory of LED ramping up and inventory of LCDs dwindling.

Hey Norma,

First; my condolences on your 1080i. I know it's hard losing a loved one.

Thanks for the info. I saw one at Best Buy(the 36" I think) and then saw the big one at Frye's this past weekend. DAAAAMMMMMNNNN it's FRAKKIN awesome. I have 7.1 surround as well. Yamaha Tuner.. Bose Speakers.. Pioneer BD..This would compliment my Media Room just right..
My projector is ok but any extra light in the room and it messes with the image. However this Samsung will show true colors even in a well lit room.. So they say!!

I'm gonna go to Blu Glo here in Fort Worth and see if they have it..

Thanks Norma, I think I was convinced already; I just needed a push out the door..

Yup, it has three "presets" that are designed for viewing in different lighting conditions. Dynamic is for brightly lit rooms (it mainly ramps up the backlighting all the way up and increases the color saturation), Normal, and Movie (for a darkened room). Each preset can be tweaked to your own liking, though.

My 6000 LED has very little backlight leaking unless you set the backlighting all the way up. But in a brightly lit room which is probably about the only time you actually need it set all the way up, I doubt you'd notice it. When we watch our 6000 at night in a dimly lit room with the "preset" set to Normal or Movie, it will display a completely black screen when it's supposed to be black. On some LCD TVs, the reviewers complain about backlight leaking around the edges making a marquee effect.

I had been waiting and waiting for Samsung to release the LED based set. I finally gave up after a couple of years and grabbed the 750 and very happy with it. However, I do envy you LED guys!

Norma, did you compare the 6000 to the a950?
I know the a950 has local dimming, but not sure about the 6000.

The new Samsungs are sexy looking even when off!

I have the 46B6000 LED and it is amazing!

These new LED's are not like the a950 with local dimming since these new sets are edge lit LED sets. They do look great though and so far I have had very little problems with flashlighting.

For me it was worth it to be an early adopter haha so I would say it is worth it.

Samsung adds features with each of its series. So the 5000 may be a baseline, the 6000 series adds features, and then the 7000 series add things like networking, playback from a USB, etc. They will all have the same picture engine. So look at some of the other products in the the line. Decide which features you want or can live without.

On the 7000 series with the network adapter, you can download NetFlix movies directly to your TV. There is also a wireless adapter that fits the RJ45 port (+$$).

Yes, I have been looking at these.

we have the touch of color 46" 750 series
i think its just a bit thicker than yours
and we love it

we got it a month after we got a sony bravia something something something that we were in love with, and the samsung makes the sony look like a walmart special in comparison

we had seen the slimmer versions, but the guy at best buy said it didnt seem worth it to pay more for it to be thinner when the regular one is already an lcd tv(and so not THICK to start with)
