My first digital point-and-shoot was 2 mp; I got some amazing shots with it, although didn't try to print the images too big.

2 mp is about what my mom actually needs
which is to say, what most people need who might post pics online or in an email to friends
but... if it were a better quality 2mp, id be happy :)
id rather it be a great 2mp, than a cruddy 8mp

Same here. Mine was a 2.1MP Olympus C-2100 UZ w/ built-in IS. I made quite a few good snaps with it but never printed anything from it.
