Went into several of them along Harry Hines yesterday and there is some cool stuff being offered. Sometimes you can get some great deals on "seconds-usually yardage left on a roll that is too small for say a maker of dresses or a furniture opholsterer would use" that make great backdrop material.

Saw some really neat vynal with snake skin type patterns impressed into it for about $8 a yard but the problem is don't know how it would react under flash photography-may buy a yard of it just to play with in a few weeks.

But it is amazing the amount of materials out there that you can pick up small yardage 1-8 yards cheap! Most of the material is 48 inches wide some is 60 inches.

Places like that is where I get alot of my backdrops. I love the clearance depts. 8 yards will give me a 10x10 backdrop with one seam. I can also use it to throw over chairs or a bed. If it has a big shine to it use 0000 steel wool and lightly buff it. That will remove the "shine" and not damage the fabric. Consider putting it on the floor! It looks great.

I used to be in a business where I bout 50,000 yards a year, and neady all of it came from what they call in the business "Jobbers". The best 2 as far as selection and price was Haber Textiles and Goldenberg. Goldenberg is on HH but Haber has moved since I was there last.

I was just suprised to find so much vinyl that was in interesting colors and patterns along with standard color sets and it really wasn't that expensive vs the cost of backgrounds from "photo" supply houses.

I am sure that there has to be an area in Houston that has a bunch of the same types of businesses, not sure about Austin or San Antonio.

I visited just 3 shops out of maybe a dozen in the area.
