I just found out that I'll be traveling to Hong Kong in June and would like to know if anyone has gone and photographed this area. I've been to Shanghai and Malaysia, but never Hong Kong. I understand it's a pretty busy place.

My interest would be photographing the history and beauty of Hong Kong. I'm sure the congestive traffic of vehicles and people will be obvious once I'm there.

Victoria Peak is a must do. You should be able to get some great night shots from there. It's been about 33 years since I was there and I'm sure it has built up quite a lot. The Tiger Balm Garden was nice and colorful. I bet a google search for the normal tourist sites will get you far more information.

Thanks for the information Ray.
I plan to Google Hong Kong, also plan to contact a guide that can take me to the most interesting and unusual places there. I'd like to get the 'off-the-beaten-path' photographs. I know I'll be shooting the usual hustle and bustle of the city life since I'll be staying in one of the downtown hotels.

When I was there in Oct, we hit a number of touristy places with a private tour bus from the hotel after coming in from Macau via ferry. I would post some snapshots taken of the spots we stopped at but my network connection at home is flaky.

The quick and dirty of it, we made stops along the seafront, facing the major electronics buildings of their skyline, then trek'd up to a Buddhist temple, made a stop at a jewelry factory(gotta make some commission), next stop was to slow ferry to the island of one of the large Buddha's. Came back down via the gondola where we met up with the guide and then went to the tallest mtn/hill in HK for some photos. The last stop was packed with tourist buses, I would suspect a night shot of the skyline from there would be nice.

I'll try and post some photos tonight assuming I have any upload bandwidth.

Angelo

Geting around Hong Kong is easy if you know where you are going. I lived about a hour from there, on the mainland, in 96-98. When we were there in Aug 08 I had the best time just walking, walking, walking. If you would like I can send you a link to my photos to your e-mail.
have fun
Jay

Angelo, please post some images and review when you get back. We've been considering a trip back to Asia this fall, with at least part of it in Hong Kong, so I'd definitely be interested in hearing/seeing more.

Haven't been there since 1975. Very Very busy place then. I had some clothes and Uniforms made and went to Victoria Peak and Tiger Balm Gardens really good photo op places. I Enjoyed the food. It's amazing what they can do with horse meat. The street vendors and local stores are a must. I can tell stories but then I would get banned.
I understand they have a new Airport built into the harbor I would love to see it.
While I'm writing this I can almost remember the Smells of good ol Hong Kong. You will know what I mean when you get there.
Have a fun trip and take a lot of pictures.

Gordon

You are correct about the smells. When I first got there it was for a construction project on the main land. It was my first time out of country. The aroma of Hong Kong hit me and I was wondering what I had got myself into. Grew to love it.
