Hey now - I shoot a D40 in JPEG, but I prefer the term "challenged".

As described, that is not typical of a DNS problem but rather the server daemon being down, or firewall rules.

The mere fact that you can ping the hosting computer means the DNS is responding and doing its job, name to IP address conversion.

Just trying to keep the terminology correct. We would not want Ken to complain about our terminology now would we?

as you can see it's a very controversial website and his topics often leave much to be desired among those photographers who are more than just hobbyists.

His site isn't bad for someone who's bought the hype and ran out and purchased a beginner DSLR thinking they're going to get better pictures. He offers up some basic knowledge, but more importantly he offers up some tweaks to the cameras to help someone new out. And at this point he's pretty damned famous, like it or not we're all talking about him right now!

"Smaller apertures which soften images. Don't shoot at smaller than f/8 or f/11 unless you really need it. "

He made this point with crop body cameras + lenses which is totally true. Diffraction with 1.6x /1.5x occurs very quickly so stopping down all the way to the end sometimes can make the image worse.

The only point of his whole website is to get hits by referring people over to Amazon, Adorama or whereever. His whole rambling, stream-of-consciousness style reviews are his method to get more hits on his website!

I don't think he's owned a lot of the equipment that he "reviews". How can he conceivably afford all those new Leica lenses? He writes his reviews by reading other reviews, press releases and tech specs on-line.

Bingo. He writes reviews for stuff that hasn't gotten to the market yet. No way is he getting stuff before it is released.

I think hes just an average guy that somehow got really popular. Unfortunately, hes not that great of a photographer. Another person who got really popular online unintentionally that comes to mind is David Hobby. The difference is that David Hobby is a freaking genius, and hes not at all cocky like Ken is.

I think it shows to Ken's character.

I am amazed that he was able to quit his job to do that website full time. He must have people clicking those links like crazy.

He also stated that he works on his website 10-12 hours a day. NFW

Yep, it is all about the money. As far as his "knowledge" I hope a lot folks on this board read and follow his advice, it will serve them well.

This, to me, is the most confusing quote I have read on his site, yet. (I stress yet)

Quote:
I even had a veterinarian friend in Africa who specializes in elephant care send me some phallus hide from the Loxodonta Africana (known for its flexibility and grip when wet) which I then had a local taxidermist apply to my camera in place of the original rubber. It took a lot of paperwork with the U.S. Dept. of Fish and Game but at least it doesn't peel off on my D1H as the rubber does.
