This place is great - 04-19-2009, 01:31 PM

I'm assuming this is the proper place on the forums to make a thread like this but I just wanted to say this might be the most helpful and respectful forum I've ever been to.

Every time I ask a question I get immediate answers, and I mean, VERY detailed answers.

I've already bought a lens through the for sale forum and everything went great.

Just wanted to say you guys have come together to make a great forum and thanks for all of your help.

I've been here for almost three years now, and it's the same helpful knowledge-base that it was when I first joined (albeit, rather larger!).

I'm glad to be of any help!

I agree for the most part.....

I did ask for some feedback on some pics that I posted on the 13th, 60+ people have looked at them but still no feedback.

Oh, it does.. but usually we all still walk away friends... with very few exceptions.

It happens sometimes.. sometimes people don't know what to suggest.. sometimes they don't know you well enough to know how you'll take a critique.. sometimes its not that the photo is bad.. its just that its not *great* ... so it doesn't excite anyone either direction.

That happens to everyone (not getting feedback on photos). I posted a maternity session a while ago but didn't get a peep - oh well. It's hardly the first time and won't be the last time, either. Some days I feel like commenting on every post I see on TPF; other days I don't feel like I have anything useful to add at all. (Guess which mood I'm in today, and you get a virtual cookie. )

This to me is the one fault with TPF, the lack of frank critique. People here would rather say nothing if they have nothing nice to say. Happened to me once in the nature forum. Since I know this forum well, I took the hint. But it would have helped to know where the improvement were needed.

Interestingly, the same image received very favorable responses on another forum. But the members of that forum are mostly European. For them, the kind of wildlife we have here is exotic and impressive. So in the end, I still figured the pic was lacking, at least when measured against the kind of quality you see in our nature forum.

I dunno. I dont think people dont say anything b/c they are lazy or something. I usually troll looking at bridals - they are my fav so I look in there a lot - and I still miss some. BIG forum - which is great. But that also means its not possible to see all the threads. I usually PM peeps if I am looking for feedback from a particular person. That works great. Ive had people do that to me also. And I so dont mind. ;o)

Ive been following Daniel around here for about the same time. ;o) There are forums that will critique you till you cry and curl up in a ball of failure to die under a rock. There are forums that excel at giving you the warm fuzzies and nothing else - everything is stellar and you are the best photog EVAH! I think TPF is in the middle somewhere. If you ask for a serious critique, people give it. If you need a pat on the back, they give that too.

I take feedback very well, and being fairly new to the photography world, I appreciate all the feedback I can get. I am not expecting oohs and ahh's, but I would just appreciate honest feedback. If the picture is boring, let me know it's boring. I now I have a ton to learn and that is why I am here. As far as leaving feedback, I do not have the expertise to leave technical feedback, I know esthetically what i find pleasing and I try and leave comments on those posts. All in all I really enjoy this forum group. I enjoy learning from what others have posted and I enjoy looking at what other photographers are doing, they provide great inspiration and someday, soon I hope, I will be taking great pictures like I see posted in here!!!
