I never watch this show... ever... I'm like one of maybe 12 people that don't like it. But... someone sent me this link and I was expecting what the audience expected. I ended up getting a "don't judge a book by it's cover" lesson. Unreal. Could Janis Joplin or Aretha Franklin make it today? I think our amazement is somewhat telling of the successful "packaging" that we expect today. Why do we think only beautiful people are talented? Why are we surprised when someone who doesn't fit our preconceived prejudices of beauty turns out to be "worthy" of respect? There's a lesson here for ALL of us.
