What time are you all booking your portrait sessions for? What is the best time for natural lighting without the shadows being to harsh? Thanks in advance!

The answer is very simple. When you feel like it.

I do shoots at all times of the day. When I first started this - one of the photographers said very bluntly - you need to be skilled enough to shoot in any lighting condition... and if you aren't... keep working at it until you get that way.

I schedule late in the day. Right before the sun goes down the lighting is the best.

I always like shooting in the late afternoon/evening. Or morning.
But like Donna said, if your booking portrait sessions you need to know how to shoot anytime.

But don't let the client pick the time and place if you're not comfortable shooting under any lighting conditions.

The first two hours after sunrise and the last two hours before sunset are the times when the available light is easiest to "tame". At other times during the day, the closer to noon the harder you have to work to tame the light.
