$50,000 offered for bird photo - 04-25-2009, 07:07 PM

A private donor has offered $ 50, 000 to anyone who presents photographic proof of the ivory-billed woodpecker, hoping to rekindle enthusiasm for the bird reportedly spotted in the state (Arkansas) in 2004.

Full story....

I see myself renting some long lenses in the near future...

Really, though, I found it frustrating trying to photograph woodpeckers. I could hear them when I was camping in Arkansas, but I never could figure out where they were.

We have several kinds around the house. From the big pileated to tiny downy. They are easy to see.

WELL I think we should send 5 guys out each with a boat-gps-some good sound equipment and of course some fast glass and cell phones- spend a long week over there and then split the $50K (plus states $10K?) and get a shared credit photo printed all over the world!

Finding the Ivory-billed Pecker is larger than life in Audubon society.

$50k!?, no thanks.. I would be a multi-millionaire if i can prove the existence and got hold of a video/photo image of the Ivory-billed Pecker. LOL

Even the NASA equipped teams can't locate one.........

I just glanced over a dozen Web pages on this bird. I learned that extensive efforts from teams of searchers have been combing the woods looking for this bird for the last 3 years. They explored 3000 miles of forest last year. I would love to be able to participate, but I would need a grant.

Blurry videotape? That's aliens and bigfoot, not woodpeckers.

I just spoke to a friend who says that an ivory billed woodpecker hangs out at his brother-in-law's birdfeeder. I told him to get a photo. We'll see.

I heard that the Ivory Billed WP hangs out with the snipes I used to hunt as a kid.
