Texas School is Great- my experience so far.. - 05-05-2009, 06:53 PM

Day one. Arrive check in and attended classes. took a little break before dinner and checked in at hotel. Boy has Holiday Inn changed! Very nice. Went to Pizza/Hamburger party hosted by Full Color. Then off to a opening presentation and then to class. I got out at 11:15 PM! Had me so reveded up my mind couldn't sleep. So I got 3 hours sleep.
Day Two: up at 6:ooam. Did some shooting before class started. Class was over at 5:30 and dinner at 6:00 at Cowboys with a band and lots of "gifts" I did not win anything but one of the wranglers for my class took home a Texas School Ninja Bike presented by BWC. I was very funny she just started riding last year AND in our BYOB (Bring your own Brain) class she had answered the question, "what is something that you enjoy doing that you don't spend enough time doing?" Her answer was Biking!!!! What were the chances of that! Maybe by making the statement, she won the bike. I got back to my hotel early 10:00 and went to bed. Woke up 2 hours later sick and spent the rest of the night in the bathroom.
Day 3 Get to class, I am tired as a dog and they are talking about photoshop and I just can't get it to work quite right. BUt I know that being tired and not feeling well is causing the problem. I just kept trying. I thought great, when eveyone goes to lunch I will work and get my 16x20 images ready So I can drop them off and they will be ready. Well that doesn't go as planned another student needed a ride to get some stuff. I was going to head over after class but that didn't happen, we got out of class late. So I Start to head to the hotel to freshin up a little Dinner is at 5:45 with Party after. I make it 5 blocks and hear a pop under the hood and the temp is rising like mad! I had a felling right away it had something to do the cooling. I have to wait for a stop light before I can pull over. SO I call AAA, they send a tow truck and give me the number for enterprise so I can get a rental and let me know that Enterprize closes in 30 minutes and I need to call now. Enterprize is only about a mile away, they have a car AND will come pick me up. THe tow truck is only 10 minutes away when Enterprize arrives. He waits with me with the AC running until the tow comes. I missed dinner but will be able to make the party! SO all is well

I would tell you about my class but if I did, I would have to kill you! At least until the last day. But I don't think that saying it is good will hurt!!! Hope my instructor doesn't read this!! Let me just say "All In Good Time"! I miss you all, I am having TPF withdrawal issues. Maybe that is why I got sick! Gotta run!
All is good and I am having fun!

Let me just say if you ever get the chance to take ANY class with Joe Glyda or Carol ANdrews DO IT!

Oh my!!! You are having a riot.... I'm loving my first year... LOVE Sarah Petty's class! I've met a couple of TPFers... and laughed at the Spazmatics...lol...

I ended up with a head cold as well!

My ten cents worth.
Since it is at UTA for the first time, there were some logistical problems, but the staff of Tx. School busted their butts and straightened most of it out.
My class was moved into the fellowship hall of a local Episcopal Church. It's a wedding class, so we have a great chapel to go and learn about lighting brides, etc. Plus, there is parking right outside the door. If you remember back to college days, you'll remember that the parking lot was always a half mile from the building you wanted to go to.
I've attended all the requisite parties, even if for just a little while, and they are pretty interesting. People in costumes and people not. Cool people (like Brad) and not so cool people .....
The trade expo is very good and you can try/buy touch anything you can think of.
Canon technicians were cleaning and adjusting cameras and lenses for free.
We each get up to 13 large prints from the various labs, for free.
Last nights dinner was in the Diamond Club at the Ballpark, and tomorrow we have Six Flags all to ourselves........

Ooh, and I have to mention that one of my instructors is DROP DEAD GORGEOUS.

With so many of the instructors my friends I have been getting calls all week about not being there and them rubbing it in :)

Fun times in deed!
