pack in securely in a hardsided Pelican case with a TSA lock on it if you want to bring a lot of gear. Otherwise, get a nice Lowepro backpack and stuff as much gear in it as possible and carry the sonnuvagun on!

carry on only, and keep it with you always, always, always. period. A backpack that doesn't say "CAMERA" is best.

take the longest lens you have, and the widest. And the widest + fastest for inside onboard shots.

And something to offload pics onto when you run out of card space. And/ or buy more cards. And more cards....they're cheap, memories aren't.

and have fun!

I just booked a cruise for next year. I'm thinking instead of lugging the DSLR around I'll pick up something like a Cannon G-10. Much less obivous and easier to carry about. I might even get an underwater housing for it.

Hey, don't drop your stuff overboard. That wouldn't be good.

I like the idea of a point-and-shoot. No sense in worrying about your equipment when you're supposed to be having fun.

that makes sense. Consider the spots you might visit on shore, that's really the only place that 'more' camera might come in useful. Onboard, a good point-n-shoot will be less distractiing.

If it were me, I'd have a point and shoot and then probably take one of my DSLRs with one lens (don't know the Nikon equivalent, but something like a 24-105 f/4 IS in Canon-speak).

Excellent idea...I can almost guarantee you some spectacular sunrise and sunset opportunities where you'll be glad you brought the DSLR but the P&S makes sense for the onshore excursions...Ben

i went on a cruse last year and regret not taking a wide angle. Most of my mexico cruise was landscape so the zoom was worthless to me. Oh yeah... put it around your neck when checkin..

What about a high end HD camcorder? Some are capable of taking 12 MP photos.
