to fly without doors over Kauai or no?
We can't all get on the same flight if we do but I think it would be much nicer that way. Plus 3 of the 4 has an open view. The 4th one has middle seat beside of pilot.
If we go with doors it is cheaper and we all fly together with possible middle seats. But then we take the chance of reflections etc....
So would you pay extra?

Hard to say without knowing how much extra, but if photography is the main motivation for the tour I'd probably pay extra to go door-less.

If going without doors moved my flight out of my price range, I'd go with doors. If not, without doors, and sitting next to the opening would be my first choice.
Last time I did that, I had an M60 machine gun to hang on to over the jungles of Viet Nam.

OK reg price would put it almost 60 dollars pp over the other guys.
Military discount gets us down to about 45 more
and if we pay cash it is 35 more.
But we are talking 6 people here 5 of which I have to pay for lol.

Without doors. BUT beware. Tie your camera down. You will not believe the wind you get hitting it. I would be easy to loose.

I agree with Janice - the wind is really strong. We were stationed in Guam, and I had the opportunity to do a fly over with some friends, and watched Dan (my friends husband) lose his really nice Canon setup...

Neck strap securely around you, or looped through your fastened seat belt seems to work pretty well. I think when you're talking about a trip like that, it's worth spending the money to go without doors while you're there. Plus, if somebody on the ends gets air sick they can just heave-ho out of the copter rather than all over everybody else (or your camera gear).

My wife calls it "riding the elephant". That is, if this is something we/she will probably only get to do, or want to do once but we/she wants that experience then the extra cost, within reason of course, is worthwhile.
We've done several somewhat expensive things on trips that we will likely never do again but all in all, I'm glad to have experienced those activities at least once in my life.

If you go the cheaper route, in hindsite you will look back in future years and regret that you didn't go for it. Right now $45 a person seems expensive, but in a year you will be glad you did it, and the money won't mean a thing. The memory will not be how much you spent, it will be the experience.

Breezy, I have taken the helicopter tour of Kauai (mainly the napali coast) - it was in a helicopter with doors (did not see other options at the time). I great ride, and I am glad we took the opportunity.

I recall that when you sign-up for the flight, they ask for your weight and then assign seats to balance the load weight of the helicopter. I was fortunate to get a window seat. If they keep the same practice, you may not get a window seat - just luck of the draw (my wife got the left hand front seat (side window plus an unobstructed front view - and she does not use a camera )

Doors, schmoors. It ain't fun until you step outside

Try being rear float on a Super Otter with 6 other jumpers taking a big chunk out the door!

Seriously though, even at 'normal' flight speed, the wind is punishing. Hold on to your gear tightly!

I sure miss skydiving
