I need some suggestions on a good GPS under $200. There are so many name brands out there. Would like, but not a must, the following options: - speed limit zones shown on the screen
- microSD media card slot (for extra map storage)
- Turn-by-turn voice prompts
- Trip computer - Provides current/average speed, resettable maximum speed, trip timer and trip distance.
- Where Am I? feature - Find nearby hospitals, police stations, gas stations, addresses and intersections. Mark the location of your car when the unit is taken from its holder so you always know where you are.

I don't know if it has speed limit zones or not, but I bought my parents a Garmin Nuvi - I think a 205 or something like that. It was around $170 at Best Buy and is very easy to use and does everything else you are looking for (turn by turn, trip computer, where are you, etc.). I've borrowed it myself a few times and wouldn't mind having one.

Garmin Nuvi's have all that, and I LOVE mine! (Enough that we bought one for my MIL for Mother's Day!)
ETA: I had NO idea that an iPhone could do all that! Now I want one even more!!!!

I have a Sony NV-U83T. I know, shocking, me with a Sony. I got it cheap with Sony points from my credit card, and was actually surprised how much I liked it. It has worked great downtown and has some cool features, like the splitscreen with street level view at highway interchanges. Responcetime is fast and directions have been accurate.
I think there is an NV-U84 now, although these days I use my HTC Touch Pro as my nav if I need one, since it is pretty much always on me.

Do not get a Magellan! Mine is 5 months old and there are weird little black specks on the screen. I did some research and apparantly it is common with them. I am going to buy a Nuvi this weekend :)

Another supporter of the Garmin Nuvi 200. It can be found for slightly less than $200. When it's time to update the map it costs about $100 I think. It's led me to many places I would of gotten lost in otherwise. Especially at night.

to you guys who linked to the stolen GPS thread... that's sooooo wrong!
I don't own one but have used the Garmin Nuvi numerous times and was impressed. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
