Modeling Portfolio question - 06-26-2009, 03:50 PM

I've had someone approach me about the possibility of creating a modeling portfolio for them....
What does a modeling portfolio normally include? (i.e. studio and on-location, etc.)
Thanks,
E.

It depends on what type of modeling they are wanting to do.

A modeling portfolio is not a single day's work from a single photographer.. but their best work over time.

That said.. I create a modeling set for aspiring and working models that results in 5 finished images over two or three looks. (Including some headshots.) This really is all they need from a single photographer... they will need to do that with different photographers, styles, and wardrobes over time to create a real portfolio.

Thanks, Brad. That's kind of what I thought, but I didn't want to say yes to photographing this woman's daughter if she was expecting all studio work, especially.
I'll ask the mom some more questions and see if it's something I should tackle or not. The mom may not even want me when she finds that I've never done a model shoot before.
Thanks, again, for the input.

Headshot is the MOST important - that is something she will take with her to auditions & so forth.
Also, 1/2 body, and full-body shots.
Studio is best & esp. if you have a good photoshop program to inset backgrounds etc. But nothing too flashy.
She should bring a variety of colors, nothing too busy though..oh, and no name brands showing :)

Just off the top of my head.
Me & our girls have been in THAT part of the biz for several years now...as a hobby.

Here is what I offer models:

http://txheadshots.com/modeling.htm

And when I talk to them (them being beginners at this stage), I make sure they understand that this is a beginning, not an end to a portfolio. They needed to seek out additional photographers to add more.. and they should seek out reliable agents.. that an agent will never ask for money up front.. and other be wary of scams advice. (I also point to a book I have for sale at my studio that is aimed at actors and models just getting started... but I won't plug that here.)

That's fine!!
Are they from the shoot where I was "waif" looking??LOL
Like I said, I got off the ADHD meds & put on a few pounds, so I prob. will never use those particular photos.
