Really trying to improve.... - 09-13-2009, 08:53 PM

I would like to get as much feedback/CC as you can give. Does her skin look too smooth? not smooth enough? Is her hair too "wild" and all over the place? I am looking for good critical feedback. Get picky, please.

Sorry if I have been posting too much recently. I feel like I'm getting close to producing some good quality shots and I really want to produce greatness. Thanks for taking a look.

The makeup is not flattering but I think it was not your decision?
Main light is too low.
Way to hot on the right side of the image.
Hair light is either too small or too close to the top left of the image and too hot again.
The image overall is way to soft.
No separation between the model and the background.
The WB seems to be a little warm.
No pop in the colors.

What equipment are you using?

I think the crop could be better, would like to see the top of her head and all the hair on the side. Also, a little more fill light for my taste.

Nice eyes!

No, trust me, you don't want to see all the hair on the side, it was a disaster. LOL. I'm kind of a fan of the close crop too.

Main light is too low. - low intensity or low as in elevation? I think elevation
Way to hot on the right side of the image. - I thought about darkening that side of her face a bit...
Hair light is either too small or too close to the top left of the image and too hot again. - Could be a little of both, hairlight is a Photoflex Small Halfdome, I thought it was throwing too much light so I put on the velcro reducer to limit the light even further, also my ceiling is only 8 feet high so that really limits the height of my hair light. Maybe I need to have the model sit on a stool. That would help with the height of the hair light and the key light.
The image overall is way to soft. - Can you go a little more in depth on this one for me?
No separation between the model and the background. - not quite sure what you mean on this one either, physically she was 8 feet away from the black background.
The WB seems to be a little warm. - Yeah, I am still working with the "warmth" of my pictures
No pop in the colors. - ???

What equipment are you using? - Shooting with a D700 with 24-70, this set up was 2 lights, both of them are AB800's, key is a 5' Octabox, already mentioned the hairlight.
thanks for all the comments Lonnie.

I'll pm you later when I have more time. Also what are your settings? I can't see the EXIF data.
