November 18, 2009 was the 10 year anniversary of Bonfire collapsing on the campus of Texas A&M University; killing 12 and injuring 27. This morning at 2:42 am, the exact time the bonfire collapsed, families of the injured, Texas A&M students, teachers, staff members, paramedics, and locals in the community held a candlelight vigil remembering the 12 who lost their lives and the significance of Bonfire.
Standing in the crowd listening to one of the fallen's mother sobbing, seeing the faces, the pain; life felt almost surreal. You would think a tragedy had just occurred, but this is 10 years later. The hurt was deep. Hundreds if not thousands of family members, students, and teachers gathered at the Bonfire Memorial on Texas A&M University's campus to remember Bonfire and celebrate the lives of those who we lost that night. Most in attendance did not even know someone who was injured, but they were an Aggie; that was all that mattered.
