Texas A&M Bonfire Remembered - 11-18-2009, 03:49 PM

November 18, 2009 was the 10 year anniversary of Bonfire collapsing on the campus of Texas A&M University; killing 12 and injuring 27. This morning at 2:42 am, the exact time the bonfire collapsed, families of the injured, Texas A&M students, teachers, staff members, paramedics, and locals in the community held a candlelight vigil remembering the 12 who lost their lives and the significance of Bonfire.

Standing in the crowd listening to one of the fallen's mother sobbing, seeing the faces, the pain; life felt almost surreal. You would think a tragedy had just occurred, but this is 10 years later. The hurt was deep. Hundreds if not thousands of family members, students, and teachers gathered at the Bonfire Memorial on Texas A&M University's campus to remember Bonfire and celebrate the lives of those who we lost that night. Most in attendance did not even know someone who was injured, but they were an Aggie; that was all that mattered.

Agreed. Well done.

I will be partaking in my first A&M game this weekend. My family (consisting of Baylor and A&M grads) is headed down for the weekend. Should be fun!

BTW: Can you take cameras inside? Thought it would be fun to shoot the crowd..

Thank you for sharing. I was sorry I couldn't be down there last night. We will never forget ...

Yes, you can take cameras into Kyle Field. I always take my 70-200. :-) Have a great time at the game. It is an experience you won't forget.

#2 is fantastic!

Overall very moving especially as I remember working on the bonfire myself as a CT many years ago.

Even us Longhorn fans were so sad and pause to remember the events and the students who were killed and injured, including a kid from my son's high school class (who lived two streets over from us), who was among the injured. I will never forget being in the stands at the UT-A&M game that followed and the grace with which both teams, schools and fans treated each other - especially during half-time.
