Few Outdoor Portraits - 02-02-2010, 03:20 AM

By no means a professional and portraiture is definitely not something I do much of. I enjoy the lighting aspect of it, so I agreed to take some of my Brother and Sister-in-law and the kids. The kids were getting pretty sick of it by the time of the last pic. I think you can tell from my niece! LOL!!! Anyway, here goes:

Thanks. I used 2 shoot-thru umbrellas for most of the shots.

Great shots, however why was she looking up, that is distracting to me -- but wow the shots are clear, sharp -- good job

I guess I am missing it. I don't see anyone looking up at anything.

As far as lighting, it was strobes on manual. LumoPro LP120s.

BTW, all the shots were taken with the D300s and the Nikkor 70-200 VR II.

When compared to her husband's eyes looking at the camera, I can't help but feel that she is looking at a higher level. Nicely done, but I find her eyes out of place as well. Maybe it is simply the way her sockets and eyes sit but it doesn't appear she is looking at the lens like her husband.

These are great shots! I bought a D300s and I love the images I get. How do you like the D300s? BTW the eyes on the woman are freaky...

Okay, so I decided that I would show these pics to several other people. Some of which know her and some of which did not. Of all the people who didn't know her, they ALL thought she was looking up at something. Of the people I showed that knew her, only one thought she was looking up. Freaky, I see her weekly if not daily and I would never notice this. Even in the pictures it looks as natural as can be to me. But quite obviously she has some kind of weird eye "thing" going on for everybody else to catch it. I stare at the pics over and over and they still look normal to me. LOL!!! I'll make sure that if I take them again sometime I will make sure she looks a little lower than the others.

And Jack, I absolutely LOVE my D300s! I upgraded from a 5 year old D70 which was a fantastic camera in its own right. I did receive a bad copy of the D300s initially from Amazon (misaligned sensor) but the replacement has been phenomenal. Don't even get me started on the 70-200 VR II. I'll just say this, "I am getting images with it that I would never have attempted with my old Sigma 70-200," which was actually a VERY good lens. The Sigma was my fave up until I got this Nikkor. I almost didn't sell it because I liked it so much and thought I would keep it for a back-up. But, I couldn't see not selling it and giving it a good home. Plus it helped to take some of the sting off the price of the Nikkor! I would still recommend it today for someone who wanted the same focal lengths at 1/3 price of the Nikkor.
