Welcome Home Soldiers (72nd ACO) - LOTS OF PHOTOS (SORRY) - 07-30-2010, 11:08 PM

No, my husband isn't back yet... not til the end of next month...so it was a bittersweet thing to go take photos of the soldiers from our unit coming home to their families... but it was well worth it.

Her daddy wasn't part of the soldiers coming home today either...but her mom came out, with all four kids to support those who did come home:

This was the BIGGEST smile I'd seen on this kid since I met him (post-deployment event)... he was SUPER happy daddy was home!

Okay...this guys wife told him to buy a couple of 'unit' shirts... so, he did what she said...$20/each (fundraiser)...got them... and wore it... inspite of the fact that the dang thing was bedazzled...

He kept rolling the sleeve up...making sure his tattoo was visible...and I said "Just cut off the sleeves" (yes, I'm that kind of a redneck...)...

So he did:

Lots of signs:

This is the adorable daughter (photo taken in an ugly blue chair...):

of this couple...

(think she missed him??)

Think she missed HIM?

This wife right here:

told her husband she wasn't going to be able to get off work (they live in Beaumont) ... his mom was going to meet him... and then she surprised him:

Hiding behind several folks:

This hat is now a tradition... Momma has 4 kids... all 4 of which have served time in the military... finding her in a giant stadium at events was difficult...until she got this hat... now they can find her in a stadium of thousands... so she wears it every time...

One of my favorites:

Donna I love all of the emotions that you've captured here. I know the families will treasure these!

Just curious - what lens were you using for this session?

Awwww. These are wonderful.

My brother came back last week too. Just knocked on the door. My daughters (6 & 4) answered it and started screaming and crying so I got up from the dinner table to see what the heck was going on and there he stood covered by his nieces who had scaled him to the top for hugs and kisses. BEST SURPRISE EVER!

Fantastic shots! I hope your husband remains safe and returns soon. I would love to return the favor you gave others when you and your family are reunited with your hero.

Moving shots, Donna. Well done.

Can I ask an unrelated question to anyone who knows?
Why is the camo pattern "digitized" like that?

This should explain it: Military camouflage - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wikipedia Quote:

Digital camouflage (or "digicam") is a pattern devised by utilizing small micropatterns, as opposed to larger macropatterns for effective disruption. The theory is that large blotches of color with sharp outlines are easier to see, while "blurring" the edges of the colored patches makes the outlines, and thus the objects, harder to discern.
If that is the case that the digital is to help see easier ... what's the point of camouflage? ... I bet it is for your colleagues to see who is on their team and where they are at.

It think it was saying that the digital camouflage has the "blurring" edges of colored patches to make the outlines as apposed to normal large blotches of color with sharp outlines. So the digital camouflage makes the colors blend more making them harder to see.

digital camo bdu's blend better with multiple backgrounds. instead of having to have a different pattern for each area of operation.
