Got together today with Stephanie and her Mom to make some images in this 100 degree afternoon. Fortunately we spent most of the time indoors!
C&C welcome.
1. Used ambient light coming from the window to camera right and a white reflector on camera left. The white surface she's leaning on is a white foam core board to bounce some window light under her eyes.
2. Exact same location, same window light, but she's now facing the other way, giving us a dark, low key look, as the background is darker and the windows are not visible. There is an SB800 to camera right serving as hair light, to separate her lovely hair from the dark background.
3. We did this outside very quickly. She's in the shade behind a supermarket, where we found the bush with those flowers near a dump. The sunny feel comes from the SB800 to camera right acting as sun replacement. Without it the image would be flat and boring.
4. SB800 mounted with shoot-thru umbrella in front of her plus ambient light coming from the large window behind her.
5. Now two SB800s - one with the umbrella and the other one bare acting as hairlight. Fill provided by the ambient light. I tried to create a more elegant, less casual pose and used the environment to help with that. I wish I had noticed how she posed her left hand, as I would have corrected it. Oh well.
