Before the Tamron 90mm SP Di 2.8 macro died on my last night, I got off a few hundred clicks. Got 41 "good" ones out of it:

Shot this with the same Tamron 90mm lens as the shots above.

I like that 3rd shot with the beams of light shining.

How did your Tamron crap out on you? Did you drop it or get bumped?

I'm not exactly sure what broke in the lens. It wouldn't autofocus nor would it go into manual focus. I believe the clutch mechanism that allowed push-pull action broke. I was using AF when it just wouldn't focus. The lens was not bumped or dropped to my knowledge. I bought used it from Houston Camera Exchange. They tried it on a D300 with the same results. They honored their 30 day return policy. Just so happens they had a Sigma 105mm EX DG macro lens, used, for the exact price I bought the Tamron for. Swapped out no problem. It's a shame too because I was falling head-over-heels for that Tamron 90mm!

Well, it's good they took care of you and you weren't out of pocket or out of lens.

How are you liking the Sigma now?

Seems like overall IQ at 2.8 on the Tamron is sharper than the Sigma at 2.8, at 4 or higher it was indistinguishable. The Tamron copy I had seemed to be better at contrasty colors as well. Nothing that can't be fixed with 5 seconds in PP with the Sigma.

Otherwise, I'm happy with the Sigma 105.
