First Mercer Trip.. CC Appreciated - 10-02-2010, 08:25 PM

I've been shooting this kid for almost 3 years now...he graduated high school last year, and is attending college...his girlfriend of a year now (I think) graduates this year... if I could press 'pause'...and he were my daughters type... I'd do it.

GOOD kid doesn't begin to describe him...

Conversation he had with his younger brother (14) - "When you date a girl, treat her as if she is going to marry your best friend"...

He decided NOT to date at the small school he attended (something that I am quite happy to say that MY daughter has adopted as her rule) because it is so small....'everyone dates the same people'...

Anyway... we made a trip up to Mercer and I took photos of them for their one year anniversary (oh, to be so young!) ... had a blast...although it was freaking HOT!!!! I decided to play a bit and came up with this for them!

I love these. They are all great. I also love that yo shared some of his background with us. Thank you.
If you don't mind a question from a novice or GWB (girl with camera attempting to learn all I can, what is your lighting set up? Do you use reflectors or umbrella with flash?
Sorry for such a basic question, but I am LOST when it comes to lighting. So far all I have tried is either working the natural light I have, or a reflector or on camera flash SB600 for fill lighting.

I need all the helpful tips and advice I can get.

Thanks in advance.

Kelly

Kelly - I'm still a mwac - so ask away! TPF is a fabulous resouce.

I used a 42" diffuser to block light in one of those shots - the rest are judacious use of the light available.

I didn't see where you were located, but I freely offer my brain in exchange for coffee. ;-)

Thanks Donna. I'm finding out that people really will take the time to help you here. I really appreciate it. I have found a passion in photography, I just wish I'd discovered it years ago. All I know about photography is what I am learning by trial and error and on line, or books. I have so much to learn.....lol

I'm in Spring Branch, and I love coffee :)
