First Attempt at Group Photos - 12-16-2010, 11:56 PM

For the most part I am a sports and sometime nature photographer. But I was asked recently to do some group photo shots since they were short on time and I was available. I don't own any lighting equipment so we had to go with all that mother nature could provide.

Below are 3 of the large group shots. If you would like, please select one you think is best. And if anyone has some post processing tips which might improve the picture, I would be most appreciative.

Thanks for viewing and suggestions.

Good job, David. I like #2. Maybe it is because of the exposure. The clouds are a little darker as are the black shirts.

Thanks Mike. The clouds and sun along with the mosqitoes gave me more of a challenge than I was wanting. The shoot was at 12:00 and the clouds were moving quickly so the light was constantly changing. And with the mosqitoes swarming, no one wanted to stay still very long.

I actually like #1 just because there are no harsh shadows hiding faces. For a quick grab shot group photo it is a pretty good effort. Might look at vignette or something to take the eye off the leafless branches across the top of the image.

Thanks Bruce. I may look a blurrying or try a framing program which will darken the ourter portions of the photo.

Thanks Bryan. I was fearing the worst since the director said that this was the only chance of getting all of the group together. So I went with a wide angle lens on a tripod with a average depth of field. I wanted to do some other poses but the mosquitoes were awful and I still had to take some small group shots as well.
